Sixteen-year-old Tess Ledeux (@tessledeux) still remembers her first backcountry ski experience in her hometown in the French Alps: “I was following much older friends and decided to drop off a small cliff with them,” says Tess, who was 9 years old at the time. “The result was a broken nose, but it didn’t stop my love of jumps and tricks!” ⛷️
Tess is the youngest French athlete representing her country at the Winter Olympics this year in #Pyeongchang2018. “It’s just so cool to see all these athletes from so many different countries and cultures, all reunited by their love for winter sports,” says the slopestyle skier, a sport that combines downhill skiing with terrain park obstacles, like jumps and rails. “After the Olympics, I’ll probably take a short break from skiing. But I’ll soon get back to practicing. I can’t go too long without it!” 🇫🇷
The Winter Olympics (@olympics) are taking place in Pyeongchang, South Korea, February 9-25. Tune in as we spotlight competing athletes from around the world.

Photo by @coryrichards // Captured #withGalaxy S8, produced with @samsungmobileusa // Soma Wera, 63, of Galle Sri Lanka stands for a portrait in the city market. Galle was known as Gimhathiththa before it was colonized in the 16th century by Portuguese and became the primary port of the island. The city played an important role long before the it’s colonization and according to James Emerson Tennent was the ancient seaport of Tarshish. It was ‘discovered’ by the Portuguese in 1502 when a fleet was blown off course en route to the Maldives. Galle has played many roles throughout its history, most recently as a major tourist destination that highlights the Fort of Galle. For better or worse, the city’s function is and always has been built on the back backs of laborers like Soma Wera.
