The statue that started it all ... ? .
The story goes that when this statue of George Washington was made a lot of people wanted it removed as they thought that he looked like he was a romantic congressman wearing a toga holding a decorative scroll. So the artist, who loved the way he created this statue , went to a local newspaper and created a story around it. He said that George was wearing a battlecloak and the scroll in his hand were battleplans. The story stuck. The statue stayed. Artist happy. .
