KENYA HIGHLIGHT 2: Availability of affordable salons to fix your hair, eyebrows, manicures, pedicures. The works. When I first moved to Sweden I would see black women with raggedy hair on the bus. A big no no in Kenya. I later found out why. There are hardly any salons for black people and the few ladies who do hair privately are sought after like rare diamonds. They are perpetually busy and charge a ton to get your hair done. Crotchet braids are KES 7000. I still have one more trip to do my hair. I buy the hair at @naturalhairkenya and have it done elsewhere. I had to learn to take care of and style my natural hair on YouTube. I really love my hair. This salon experience was total bliss. #kenya2018#naturalhair#protectivestyles#apedicureisbliss#meilovenairobi#love
HIGHLIGHTS OF MY STAY: Today is about 27 days before I leave Kenya. This was a special trip for me coz I got sick last year and needed to rest, unwind and chill. And recharge my worn out batteries. It was not my usual very busy "meet the people tour" when you are healthy. This was different and I needed it. I am starting a series of a couple of things I did and will remember fondly. HIGHLIGHT 1. Having breakfast outside on my balcony. No one who has the sun in their lives daily will ever understand the terror I go through. Winters are long, cold and dark and when its summer you can't really enjoy it coz you don't know if the sun will be there for a month or less. The joy of enjoying the sun with no fear of it disappearing was bliss. It's rainy now but still 19 degrees. I never took this for granted and was grateful daily. I think sickness makes you notice very mundane things. #kenya2018#grateful#rest#restoration#meilovenairobi
Part of my health programme included cleaning out my colon by drinking this natural concoction. Apparently the colon collects a lot of gunk and toxins over the years.
I am not one to buy into a "miracle" cure with no backing behind it. I decided to do this programme because 1. It had a natural focus. (Anytime I was prescribed any medicine the drugs made me 50 times worse.)2. Most of research I have done is supported by all the steps in the programme. 3. I am not one to necessarily want the easy route to anything. If I want to loose weight I change my diet and exercise choices. Anyway this programme is super intensive. Only a few people incorporate it in their lives successfully. (It also works for other diseases.) It is kicking my ass. I have to write down all the things to do in a day. I am happy and hopeful. I can't wait to help other people with ataxia as soon as I see a positive result. #guthealth#natural#organic#hope
My weekend haul from 2 different people. You don't know how this fascinates me. Are all Kenyans generous? Sweden is very clean, they have perfect waste management, tall and beautiful people, came up with IKEA and H&M, but no culture is perfect. Generosity is not this prevalent. I have really enjoyed my time here savoring small and seemingly insignificant moments and gestures. #Kenya#grateful#generous#nairobiissobae
This is the message God has been teaching me for the past few weeks. 1. God does not like my reliance on my intelligence, my work ethic etc. He wants you to lean on Him and admit your effort and strive is not a match to His might. 2. His plans are greater than yours.3. When you allow Him to work on your behalf basically you will not have to fight. He will do it on your behalf. 2nd Chronicles 20.17 You will not have to fight this battle. Stand firm, hold your positions, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf. @pastorrickwarren and @iammiketodd have amazing sermons on this aspect. #thankyoujesus#Godfirst#waitforhisplan#sunday#Repost@kristinschmucker

It’s a simple reminder, but one my heart needs often. He is God...and I am not. So though I think I know what would be best for me, He is the One that actually knows what is best for me. And though I can make lots of plans, it is His plan that is perfect. Though it feels like I am in a season of waiting, it is actually a season of God working.
I may not always understand. It may not always make sense. It may seem like nothing is happening...but behind the scenes, He is working in a million little ways to bring about His perfect plan.
He is God. We are not. And that means we can trust Him.
I derive joy from very simple things nowadays. Making Wimbi (millet) porridge and sitting in my balcony in a short sleeved dress. Bliss. This kind of attire is not what you would wear in Europe at this time of the year. Winter is especially brutal at the moment. I made yummy porridge yesterday. Gluten free, no sugar. I added some lemon juice. Have a greatful weekend. #grateful#thankyoujesus#winterisnotbae#kenyaisbae
I am embarking on a health journey for the next 39 days that I will continue on in Sweden. I refuse to believe that nothing can be done about cerebellar ataxia. I refuse to live with this condition all my life. It is so annoying. God led me to a friend who is guiding me on this healing goal. We are focusing on my gut health and an overall natural focus. No hocus focus stuff here. Scientific. I bought a nutribullet this week and have to blend veges daily with different super foods like moringa in the smoothie. It's been good eating cake and fries and chapos but my eating bad food holiday is over. My go to verse is John 11:4 This sickness will not end in death. No it is for God's glory so that Gods son may be glorified through it. I have totally refused death. (Proverbs 18.21) Today's smoothie does not look yummy. At all. #Kenya#healing#ataxia#day1oftherestofmylife#hope#joy
I have 7 more weeks before I return to Sweden. How was my weekend? First @frankiendetei came to see me accompanied by her hilarious son Baraka. She brought me onions and tomatoes and a watermelon. I dont think anyone has bought me a single onion in Europe, that's why I am so fascinated. I wanted to go buy some gluten free foods so I mentioned it to @millicentmgithinji. Who is spontaneous and was like "Let me come pick you up we go to Tmall." I asked her, "Today?" She comes armed with potatoes, more tomatoes and we went to buy my stuff. Not hers. She took me to run my errands. I should carry her to Sweden. Life will be so easy. This kindness and generosity is something that I rarely experienced in Sweden. God has given me amazing friends and I am so grateful. 7 more weeks. #weekend#myrealfriendsthough#whydoihavetoleave#Kenya
I sold a floppy black hat to my high school friend @mumbikamonjo who happens to be a stunning beauty, trend setter and fashionista. She is my model of the day. These are a few looks with the hat. 2 hats sold yesterday. The floppy black one is still available. #floppyhat#fashion
