I would never consider not serving dessert at a dinner party or big holiday meal. But… after a big meal, no one is really actually hungry.
.
It might be impressive to serve up a gorgeous layer cake (I’m not above it), but no one is going to eat more than a few bites.
.
This past Thanksgiving, I put these mini Cranberry Bundt Cakes and slices of Mini Lemon Ricotta Loaves right beside the pies and they were a perfect addition. They allowed all of us to feast on several different desserts, while only taking a bite or two of each.
.
This is something I'm going to do at a variety of get together's from now on. Christmas for sure. But also... mini muffins for brunch. Mini Cakes at birthday dinners. Mini pies and tarts at dinner parties. A couple of bites of sweet deliciousness to end the meal.

Why mini?
.
I’ve been feeling like Christmas is a bit… much. There’s just such an emphasis on more. Spend more, do more, eat more. For the entire month, everyone seems slightly harried and exhausted, and at some point in every conversation, the word “crazy” or “busy” is used to describe the general state of things.
.
Also, between all the parties, family get togethers, holiday dinners, food gifts, and home baking, we all just accept that we’re going to end the month overstuffed and perfectly primed to start yet another New Year with a resolution to undo the damage we did in December.
.
The thing is… I genuinely LOVE this time of year. I want to go to (and host!) holiday parties. 🎄 I love giving gifts to my favorite people. 🎁 I want to spend hours in the kitchen with Christmas music playing while I bake delicious, adorable Christmas treats. 🍪 And, I want to eat things that include flavors of ginger, and spice, and chocolate, and peppermint, and eggnog. 🍰
.
I just want to do all that with with a modicum of moderation. Smaller gifts. Simpler parties. Smaller portions.
.
I want to enjoy a little bit of everything. Pressure free. With more sleep and fewer expectations. With less rushing and spending, and more savoring and enjoying. With plenty of delicious treats in smaller portions.
.
Essentially, a smaller version of what I feel has become a bloated holiday.
So… mini.
.

Calling all cheese lovers.... If for some strange reason, I could never eat potato chips again, my life would go on completely unaffected. But, take away cheese and I fail to see the point in getting up in the morning.

Ok. That may be a bit overdramatic. (No, it’s not.) If I had to, I’m confident of my ability to live a happy life without cheese. (No… Not really.) There are so many other good things in life that I probably wouldn’t even miss cheese all that much. (Totally lying now.)

I told you that batch of cinnamon streusel mini-muffins was making me want to make mini versions of everything, and I meant it. The very day I made those tasty little two-bite muffins, I ordered a mini-loaf pan that makes 18 adorable little mini loaves at once. I adore it.

There’s something about yellow cake with chocolate buttercream that screams birthday cake. And birthday cakes need sprinkles. A lot of sprinkles.

It's a given that Irish Apple Cake should be made in March for St. Patrick's Day. But, apple season is NOW, and there's something about the fall that makes me want to make apple everything... apple pie, of course. But, also Irish Apple Cake.

Can I just tell you how much I LOVE this cake? The cake itself is moist and creamy and packed with crisp, tart chunks of apples. But, my favorite part is the crisp sugar topping and drizzle of vanilla custard sauce. Yuuuuummmmmm.

I’ve owned a mini muffin pan for at least 5 years (probably more). And, the muffins you see here are the first things ever to be baked in it. I’ve just been moving it out of the way to get to my regular and jumbo sized muffin pans for years. Poor little neglected mini-muffin pan

But, on Sunday morning, a little voice inside my head whispered... "Hey. You. Person who loves minimalism and tiny houses and traveling all over the country for weeks on a motorcycle largely because of the freedom of traveling without stuff… bring that thinking into the kitchen with you for a change this morning and make mini-muffins, because as you keep telling everyone – sometimes, less is more.”
