Back to one of my favorite places in the world, Queenstown, NZ, and one of my favorite photos of that trip. I used to love arm balances and there was never a bad place to pop up into a handstand. But due to a nagging wrist injury, my practice has shifted tremendously. It is no longer about hand stands, jump throughs, and all the fun variations, but about unlocking parts of my body that haven’t been addressed properly. At first it was hard to go to a class and see everyone working on their arm balances while I did a gentle shoulder stretch, but now it’s a beautiful thing. Despite my injury, I’m loving where my practice is at and the new challenges I’m working through that just aren’t quite as picturesque.
This is what it means to be a small business owner. Waking up early on a Sunday morning because it rained last night, so you can hand dry the deck so it’s ready to be used by the 9am yoga class. There are no days off, and any time away is usually spent thinking about how to better improve your service. It’s the most challenging, draining, frustrating, yet rewarding, fulfilling, life changing experience I’ve ever had. I’ll sweep the deck a thousand times a year if it means I get to continue sharing my passion with the world. Happy Sunday everyone, now back to bed.
These last couple weeks have been insane, in a good way, but insane. I’ve never worked so hard in my entire life, I didn’t even think I had the capacity to do what I did. As things are starting to settle down, I’m reminded of the WHY that is the foundation of my efforts. To share this magnificent practice of yoga with the world in an authentic and accessible way while providing a space for so many teachers to do the same, makes the mind melting hours of data entry all worthwhile. I love what I do, I love what we do, I love who we do it for, and I love why we do it. Now I’m going to go take a nap.
With the craziness of the holidays now behind us, I can’t wait to get back to it on the mat! My first class of the new year will be this evening at 5:30pm at @riffsstudios! Hoping to see some @happyuyoga folks make it up to Bird Rock to take advantage of having access to a new location!
One year ago today I walked away from a partnership that I thought would be a bright future for my career. I give up a paycheck and a project that I had worked so hard for, but my heart told me to leave. Today, I stepped into @happyuyoga as the new owner for the first time and it has never felt more right. This place is amazing, a perfect addition to the @riffsstudios family and there is not a single doubt in my mind that this is right for me. So grateful for the lessons learned over the last couple years and finally feeling the power of listening to my heart. 2019 will be a great year and I’m so in love with all the people around me heading into it ❤️🙏🏼
So here it is! I am so excited to finally announce that we have purchased @happyuyoga from my dear friends Mitch and Karson and will take over operation on January 1st! This is a dream come true for me, and something that couldn’t have come together without years of effort from several people in building @riffsstudios to what it has become. I am so excited to bring the Happy-U community into our growing family, and give even more people the opportunity to practice yoga with us. All Riffs and Happy-U members and package holders will have equal access to both studios from January 1st forward! Onwards and upwards!!!
