Fall colours, off the path! #squamish #aerialphotography

Throw em up in the air, and crank it to 11... a day of remembering soundtracks that were part of life, and love, and a friend that was a big part of many of those days-but most certainly not enough of them.

We arrived at dusk through a channel choked with icebergs the size of towns. We pulled up to Paulet Island, essentially an Antarctic volcano so stacked with penguins they lined the entire slope - and much of the ice in the nearby bay. This was where shipwrecked Swedish explorers in 1903 were forced to spend a winter trapped at the frigid bottom of the world. There were so many Adelie penguins along this stretch of the White Continent that the survivors ate them, burned their blubber for heat and stretched the skins over stone beds to make themselves more comfortable. Today, on the east side of the Antarctic Peninsula, Adelie penguins are thriving. But head 40 nautical miles west and you’re in the fastest warming stretch of the Southern Hemisphere - winter temps are up 7 degrees just in the last 40 years - where Adelie penguin colonies are collapsing left and right, chicks sometimes drowning in nests filled with rain and melting snow or starving to death. Who wins and who loses? It’s about location, location, location - another way #climatechange reveals the complexity of natural systems. The world is a complicated place. We need to embrace it and stop looking for easy answers to hard problems. I think we’re up to the task. Everyone enjoys a good scratch- #FurSeal posing away for me on the #antarcticapenninsula. Photo @ladzinski / A colorful sunset lighting up the sky over a jaggedly carved iceberg in #PleneauIsland on the #AntarcticaPenninsula. Over the last two decades, the Antarctica Peninsula region has warmed significantly, directly contributing to substantial ice loss and threatening the abundance of animals that live here. The painted skies in Antarctica can be unbelievable, especially when the sun sets in all that ice. On this evening in Lemaire Channel (which was accurately described to me as "500 Grand Tetons surrounded by icebergs") the sun danced off the water behind a massive snoozing leopard seal as we tried to sneak by, then lit up the 87-foot Hans Hanson like something out of Johnny Depp flick. A stunningly beautiful evening. #antarctica

And for the aerial view of @paulnicklen video that was just posted! - so cool to see the different views! Repost---->> Photograph taken while on assignment for @natgeo // I was trying to photograph krill near the Antarctic peninsula to showcase the importance of this tiny crustacean for species like humpback whales. Not only did this humpback whale come racing over to us but it kept trying lift me up on its 14-foot long pectoral fin. He stared at me for the longest time with his/ her grapefruit sized-eye rolling around and then would reach out and touch me with its fin. I did not know that a 50,000 pound animal could be so gentle. #followme on @paulnicklen to see this whale underwater.
