A couple of weeks ago, I was guiding hunts in Tanzania and outside temperatures were around 35 degrees. Today I was invited to hunt in Germany with outside temperature around minus 2 degrees. My fiancee says I'm crazy, I call it passion ... It's so nice to see people caring about their hunting areas, organizing 1 or 2 big driven hunts per year in order to keep population numbers fair and have little pressure! With that, the game stays very calm and active during daylight hours! The public does not have the slightest idea, how much time, dedication, discipline and money it takes to do wildlife management like that and make it a better place for future generations. Thanks for a wonderful hunting experience. (I missed one wild boar and harvested 3 young boars) #peterdafner#pdsafaris#hunting_photo#hunterslife#jagd#jakt#rifle#oxota#sauer404#zeissv8#waidmannsheil#waidgerecht

As with many things in life ...all good things are coming to an end. The same here in the Selous Game Reserve. Last hunt of the season, last hunting day finished and this is the time to say thanks! Thanks to all our clients that made this great season possible, thanks to Tanzania, it’s wildlife and its people, thanks to Mkwawa Hunting Safaris with their great blocks and logistic support, thanks to our Facebook friends for all the comments, likes and „following“. Most of all, thanks to my fiancée Kristine for her understanding, hard work and dedication....in case she doesn‘ t know...I love her As Karen Blixen said „I am were I ought to be!“ cheers from K5...PD #peterdafner#pdsafaris#prohunter#ethicalhunt#huntingblog#jagd#jakt#oxota#africahunting#selousgamereserve#huntingseason#chasse#outfitters

This is part of our story and how it all began.. Hunting a truly wild Lion in modern times is challenging and expensive with very regulated and limited offtake. Did you know that following details are applicable to all Lion hunts in Tanzania and other countries are similar. - only males 6 years and older may be hunted
- not allowed to be hunted, if within a pride..If within a pride that has Cubs younger than half year ...
If mistakes are made there are hefty fines for the professional hunter and if a Lion is younger than 4 years, trophy may not be exported.
This is just for information to those people that think that there is not much to it in Lion hunting. It needs proper management to the areas, good monitoring and dedication. End result: take very few, but safe a lot for the future...

Today is a very special day for our client and myself with emotions going up and down like a roller coaster ...but let me start how it all began a couple of days ago. We heard Lions roaring 2-3 miles from camp and decided to bring out a couple of baits in order to try and get a look at them. Nothing happened until yesterday morning, when we found some fresh tracks of two big males walking together. Baits were changed around, new drags connecting the baits and what do we find late afternoon? These two old guys had killed a 1 year old hippo early in the morning and we only found it because of some vultures in the tree. Quick decisions were made, tied up the hippo to a tree, fixed a trail cam and sat until last light...but no show..:-(
...this morning we walked in with first light and found them both feeding. When my binoculars were focused, I could hardly believe my eyes! The biggest and oldest Lions I have ever seen in the Selous. However, when we made the decision to shoot, they spotted our movement and disappeared into the nearby thicket. Can you imagine my heart dropping down and you did not want to see my face. Anyway, we quickly put up a mobile blind and gave it another try. The thoughts and emotions going through your mind, when sitting in a blind is unbelievable. Eventually at 8.15 both guys showed up again and the rest is simple and clear: hunters pay for conservation and because of these hunters coming to visit, we can protect remote areas and their wildlife. Sustainable utilization of natural resources ...protect for future generation....our dedication. Thanks to Mother Nature. Cheers. PD

Team Dan M. two more Buffalos, team PD one Hartebeest in the salt, Zebra wounded and lost (unfortunately that happens) ...I think with 6 good Buffalos in the bag for two clients within 3 days, that it is safe to say: " our management plan of the areas, the way we hunt (50% daggaboys) is going the right direction! Hunters pay for conservation! We strongly believe in sustainable utilization of natural resources! Cheers. PD #pdsafaris#peterdafner#prohunter#africahunting#huntingblog#jagd#hunters#jakt
