Paul Bendickson, Duluth, Minnesota. I met Paul this past summer when I was photographing in Duluth, Minnesota. It took me a minute to realize that he was homeless, and his interest in talking was based on asking for some money. It seems unfortunate that we have come to accept homeless people as the “other,” but I have to admit it was a little unnerving when a homeless panhandler looked and talked a lot like me. I learned that Paul was a veteran, had recently broken up with his girlfriend and his landlord kicked him out to fix a leaky roof. He was from the East Coast, so he had no family nearby as a safety net. I’m not sure how much of his story is true, but the memory of our short meeting has stuck with me. Hard times of any sort are not fun to endure. The only good part, in my opinion, is you find out who your true friends are.
Fernbank Forest, Atlanta, Georgia The colors were spectacular this morning at #fernbankforest I had thought this year the colors were not going to be as special, but they were just later. #dronephotography
