Photo @ladzinski / A young #coyote, on the prowl for a meal and wearing a nasty injury on its hind leg. You have to be tough to make it in the wild kingdom, an injury like this can mean death to the animal if the infection spreads and/or it hinders movement and the ability to hunt. I took this photo yesterday morning in #RockyMountainNationalPark, it was -3 Fahrenheit, a very cold morning to say the least. An exposed wound like this is highly susceptible to frostbite, hoping this little guy here makes it.

Stairway to Heaven | Photograph by Mike Kane
“I love the negative space in this location,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Mike Kane. “I framed the lone figure within the leading lines as a human element to add scale and a hint of mystery. Who is he? Where is he coming from? Where is he going to?”

“There’s not too much to say. You simply have to stop and look at this photo. The background is just soft enough that it could be the sky, and the stairs lead straight up to it. The composition is so pleasant and straightforward. The stairs enter and leave the frames just at the corner, the man has begun his journey but still has a bit of walking to do through the frame. The way the light changes across the stairs makes me curious about the rest of the space. What’s so funny to me about this photograph is it is probably extremely direct, a staircase in a museum, possibly, that leads to the next exhibit, but when I look at it, I can’t help but think deep and dream big.” — @natgetravel Producer Marie McGrory (@mariemcg23)

Sixteen-year-old Tess Ledeux (@tessledeux) still remembers her first backcountry ski experience in her hometown in the French Alps: “I was following much older friends and decided to drop off a small cliff with them,” says Tess, who was 9 years old at the time. “The result was a broken nose, but it didn’t stop my love of jumps and tricks!” ⛷️
Tess is the youngest French athlete representing her country at the Winter Olympics this year in #Pyeongchang2018. “It’s just so cool to see all these athletes from so many different countries and cultures, all reunited by their love for winter sports,” says the slopestyle skier, a sport that combines downhill skiing with terrain park obstacles, like jumps and rails. “After the Olympics, I’ll probably take a short break from skiing. But I’ll soon get back to practicing. I can’t go too long without it!” 🇫🇷
The Winter Olympics (@olympics) are taking place in Pyeongchang, South Korea, February 9-25. Tune in as we spotlight competing athletes from around the world.
