Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPsplitscreen
Two halves equal one great shot. This weekend, the challenge is to share images that show two things in a split frame. For inspiration take a look at this featured image from videographer Gosse Bouma (@gosse_bouma). Here are some tips to get started:
🖼 Think half and half. Look at your frame in terms of top and bottom or left and right. Are they strikingly different? Maybe the frame is split in half by shadows, a face in profile or the edge of a pool.
🖼 Create a divide. Find something that divides the frame, like a road, a curtain or a tennis court net. Get creative with it to make your own split screen composition.
🖼 Look in the background. Is something exciting or unexpected happening in the background? It could be a squirrel hiding behind a tree or a couple hugging behind a fish tank.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPsplitscreen hashtag only to photos and videos shared over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. By adding the #WHPsplitscreen hashtag, you consent to and grant Instagram all rights to repost your photo or video. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video shared over the weekend with the #WHPsplitscreen hashtag is eligible for the project and, if selected, to be featured next week.

Photo by Robbie Shone @shonephoto | An Italian explorer traverses a canyon, avoiding the deep, cold water below a thin unstable crust of ice inside a moulin on the Gorner Glacier, Switzerland. Progress is often slow when the floor is dangerously unstable, like it is here. This was the first of many glacier caves we descended during our recent expedition to the area.

“When I first saw them I realized that I saw the wonderful and beautiful twin sisters,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Mariam Berodze. “Their golden hair, childish smile, and a warm attitude towards each other was fascinating. A few weeks later, we came across each other at the university, and the only thing I exactly knew was that I must photograph them.” This photo was selected for the February 20, 2017 Daily Dozen.

Top Shot features the photo with the most votes from the previous day’s Daily Dozen, 12 photos chosen by the Your Shot editors from thousands of recent uploads. Our community votes for their favorite photo from the selection, and the Top Shot is showcased on the @natgeoyourshot Instagram account.

Photo by @michaelclarkphoto // From Yellowstone to Hawaii. This month’s travel schedule is a study in contrasts for me. From full on winter to shorts and T-Shirts. While waiting for waves here on the north shore of Oahu I visited the incredible Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden near Kaneohe, Hawaii. Even though I have been to Hawaii a dozen times or more somehow I have never been to Ho’omaluhia before - it is absolutely stunning. #hoomaluhia #hawaii #oahu

Photo by @CristinaMittermeier // Kayaking through the Antarctic Peninsula provides a beautiful perspective of this polar landscape. Life here easily goes from serene to wild, but there is always a choir of wildlife calling out as they carry about their busy days. I am so thankful for my opportunities to visit and photograph such a secluded, yet vital region of our planet. #FollowMe at @CristinaMittermeier and explore my feed for more photos from #Antarctica. #kayaking #polar #wildlife #ocean #photography
