photo by: @renaeffendiphoto // People give elephants a bath in the river at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, a sanctuary for retired elephants. Most elephants here have been rescued from labor exploitation in logging of nearby jungles and are now looked after by the Elephant Nature Park volunteers and visitors. Among park activities - riding elephants is strictly forbidden, however showering them, feeding them vegetables, scrubbing watermelons and pumpkins for them and cleaning after them is encouraged. Photo by @amivitale.  Budapest, Hungary has long been renowned for its health spas and thermal springs and here, people relax in the healing waters of Szechenyi Baths. It is one of the largest natural hot springs in Europe and throughout its century old history, about a 100 million bathers have enjoyed the warm medicinal waters. They discovered that many of these springs are connected underground by a huge “thermal lake” and the ancient Roman settlement, Aquincum, located on the outskirts of Budapest is the site of the very first hot mineral water bath.  Follow me @amivitale for more stories from around the world.

Hike Before Sunrise | Photograph by Aya O. (@labyrinthiansmile)
“We started hiking at 3AM to make it to the lava fields for the sunrise light,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Aya O. “Here we are just before sunrise at 5:05AM with Kaleo Kai on the horizon.” This image was selected for the December 8, 2017 Daily Dozen by Your Shot producer Matt Adams (@themattadams). To see other editor’s favorites, go to the link in our profile.

“The silhouette here is excellent, but it’s that small detail of the burst of red-orange lava popping out of the ground that really caught my eye in this photo. I love how the image has weight on both sides of it, the person to the right and the lava on the left. Hiking before sunrise was the right call here!” — @natgeoyourshot Producer Matt Adams (@themattadams)

Photo of @flourshop by @elizabethrenstrom “People eat with their eyes, so who wouldn’t want to eat a rainbow? Or a unicorn?” asks Amirah Kassem, the baker and founder of Flour Shop (@flourshop). 🌈🦄 Five years ago, Amirah couldn’t afford a website and started her business on Instagram. “For many years that was the only way to place an order,” explains Amirah. Last month, she opened her very own brick-and-mortar shop in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City.
Her number one inspiration when dreaming up her bright and playful treats? “My childhood! There are so many things we tend to forget as adults — like how fun imagination and blowing bubbles can be — so I try to hold on to that eating-ice-cream-for-breakfast mentality.”
Watch our story to learn about Amirah’s affinity for all things rainbow and unicorn, and follow along on #IGYearInReview as we reflect on the most memorable Instagram trends of 2017.
