But coming back to Jamaica Queens, connecting with my West Indian roots and being honest with my body and high femme presentation today was definitely met with mixed reviews. Always, but particularly after a day like this I wonder how do we get the support we so desperately wish we could have from the communities we come from
I am a first generation American, West Indian gender non-conforming queer person of color.
I am not interested in mainstream America’s gender binary or standards of “beauty”. Life in Trump’s America is not easy. Finding employment is difficult at best and leaving the house is often dangerous. I am proud of who I am and I believe queer visibility makes the world a better place. I promise to not stop being myself if you promise the same thing.
