Umm, have you ever seen a more generous giveaway? To three lucky winners! #EpicMegaBirthdayFlashGiveaway by @mauihawaiigrl
(PS This is for HER birthday, so . . . . . . . Happy birthday and I hope you get something amazing, whatever that is to you.)
“Possessing or characterized by life,” (Merriam-Webster). Found objects—everyday, unaltered, and innocent—embody living sensations and emotions through natural condition and contrasting environment.
You might be wondering why I’m posting a photo of someone else’s dirty laundry on some old linoleum. You might think, “Cool—faded mom jeans and pastel granny panties.” It’s okay; so did I. But not until after I had a momentary sense of mid-‘90s nostalgia, replete with a hallucinatory whiff of CK1. Rachel Green would have.
Me @Deciem: Help! More help! No, that seems wrong—even more help! . . . Do you love me?
I’m surely wrong, if anyone is, but I’m 99.99% convinced something’s getting lost in communication (or could be expanded upon somewhat easily in the rather repetitive replies). Just like I’m 99.99% convinced it’s 1.99% Granactive Retinoid Emulsion and 0.199% Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate + 0.1% (according to rep) retinol. // Started as a curiosity project—“Hey, HPR sounds promising and I like the idea of 5% delivered in squalane, but the 2% w. retinol could be a good safety, given the limited research . . . “—has turned into an I-must-understand project. (Also, .1% retinol isn’t worth safety status. Someone find me a #retinal/dehyde that is not RetrinAl, i.e. a cream, or $90, i.e. Osmosis Renew. WHY DON’T COMPANIES USE RETINAL?)
Yay, my asos package came! The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% is officially moved to spot treatment, Glycolic 7% Toning Solution will become AM toner, CosRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid—haven’t decided where to fit that in, ideally. Maybe after the LQ run it will be time to move onto P50 1970? (Fun fact: phenol is listed as as having potential skin, blood, liver, kidney, and respiratory toxicity according to the EPA, but being a-okay in limited amounts in food by the FDA. There’s probably “science” there because of digestion and liver enzy—wait. The FDA will let people eat anything. And the EPA is basically defunct, so whatever.) I keep meaning to make a post about product additions/replacements/wish list . . . but then I think about graphics and the fact I don’t even have a skincare instagram (or want the pressure of maintaining one). Huh.
Flat lay/still life (2017): Bed After Morning Rush (Anon.) // Feat. kitschy antique glasses₁, Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer₂, a tin of shit I almost never use/that doesn’t fit in my organizer (with a layer of shit I routinely use on top)₃, wretched pink Phillipe de Méo brush₄, Chanel kabuki₅, L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Primer₆, Real Techniques sponge₇, Givenchy Prisme Libre in Mousseline Pastel₈, bespoke brush cleaning tin₉.
₁Because no one can pass up cute antiques in Amish country. ₂Do not try to use this on top of ANYTHING. Used it under foundation today—much better (or mix it; better yet, buy CoverFX). ₃To provide critical tension. ₄See previous post. ₅A present for good grades in HS. One of my dogs chewed the handle. ₆Makes my lashes Volumi-flat. ₇Legit like these more than Beauty Blenders. ₈Recently realized how much I really like this powder. I wish it were easier to find in-store in other shades (to avoid shimmer). ₉”Bespoke” sounds cooler than “DIY” or “homemade.” A Kusmi loose rose tea tin from Paris. (Via my sister. The only travel delicacies I buy are Teuscher champagne truffles at Rockefeller Plaza.)
I liked my makeup today. I didn’t even bluhhhr muh face, as you can tell from the . Think I finally figured out the best undereye concealer method for me: Smashbox Hydrating Undereye Primer, THEN face primer (equal parts Mercier Hydrating + Becca Backlight + First Light), THEN Shape Tape only from inner eye to mid-circle, THEN foundation (Armani Luminous Silk) blended to edges, THEN Becca Brightening Undereye whatever-it-is on outer half of circle, THEN Sonia Kashuk Brightening Liquid Concealer very inner circle, THEN set (Givenchy Prisme Libre). Tried something new for the spot—lid primer, Shape Tape for opacity, foundation, Nars Soft Matte for better finish/shade match—but I should have lightly powdered pre-foundation and not *brushed* foundation over. Or maybe just buy a green CC like I used in middle school (from Physician’s Formula, who I swear sold stuff like that for super cheap before it was a “thing” and before they became the department store brand of drugstore brands/NYX existed). So, WIP. Note the small brush-shedding remnant—thanks, super old Sephora “Intelligent Tool” Phillipe de Méo brush that’s always shed forever.
YES! After asking @themakeupgrub about her luck with the Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask, she clued me into a skin care staple of which I was completely unaware: @alphahskincare’s Liquid Gold. The price left me ambivalent—read: I’m broke, okay?—but, after some (brief) research, I could not find ONE negative comment. By chance (i.e. an asos mailer), I located a twin-pack for $29.50 . . . right next to the single for $59.95. One mishap later and it’s on its way (and low in stock) and I’m clueing you in . . . which is #logic because I follow all the skin blogs, not vice versa. QUICK MATH: 2x100mL is 200mL for $29.50US vs. 100mL for RRP $59.95 → that’s 75% off (or 50% off + BOGO)! Fingers crossed for this one!
Was not kind to my skin this week. Greeted by two friends in what has become the same two spots. (To be fair, I think this has 99% to do with not being on BC right now. Not trying, always actively trying NOT.) I’m a burn/scab/cuticle/anything picker by nature, so I put an extra layer of BHA, tiny bit of BP, ichthammol—should be called ickthenothingrhymesthatmakessense—and clay mask under blister band aids (they’re not even hydrocolloid, I just couldn’t find anything else). // Double cleanse + Ordinary 7% Glycolic Toner + CosRx BHA Power Liquid (t-zone) + Dr. Gross C+Collagen Eye + Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% (cheeks) + Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% + Ordinary Hyaluronic 2% w. B5 (eyes and mouth) + CosRx Snail 96 Essence + Simple Sensitive Moisturizing Lotion w. Aloe + Ordinary Squalane = shiny #bestlook (band aids help). Going to lather myself in Origins ginger lotion to get tar smell out of nose.
Don’t drink the Kool-Aid. Are ALL shooters on ADs? Also, that’s totally a theory. And there are no statistics there except the 1980s one, which is vague and meaningless; look up “fact.” Also, my eternal thought: I’m sure there is something wrong with many of these people—lack of empathy/sociopathy, psychopathy related to any number of conditions/elements—but I’d really like to stop making mental illness or disorder a diversionary tactic. It’s possible for people to just be uncaring, callous people; that’s not a DSM diagnosis.
What a steal! What a deal! Basically a full-sized Becca Filter Face Primer—via two halves—and a half-sized eye brightener for $25 w/ FS! (Primer is $38 full/$18 half.) Ordered Wed, arrived today. Love First Light under Luminous Silk and Backlight mixed with my Mercier Hydrating Primer (may also mix with my Dr. Jart+ BB since it’s more opaque). Excited to try the brightener with my existing concealers and whichever I try next . . . thinking It Bye Bye Under Eye?
