As the calendar turned to October, typically a wet and soggy month, the forecast continued to show sun with just enough rain and cool temperatures to provide the best conditions of the year. To take advantage of this, we threw a party with bikes, bonfires and beers. Inviting 12 of our best homies was a no brainer and a great way to say thanks for a rad season!

“We were asked to do a collab together for the first time. At first, as a joke, we threw out totally opposite ideas and vibes to the creative team saying "hey could you make something work meshing these two vibes?". John's 'feel' was a death metal song, and my 'feel' was a song on the Ukelele by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Island vibes. We were expecting a laughing email back and instead of more jokes, they immediately sent us mockups of the goggle pretty similar to the finished product. And we were like, ‘actually, that's kind of sick.’ I still don't know if they knew we were trying to give them a hard time and joking initially.” - Angel Collinson

“The basic idea was a sibling collab- and although Angel and I are super close and similar in lots of ways, we are also near opposites in others, so that comes across with the opposing black/ white. But then we sent in two songs to the team - mine was a favorite metal song, and angel sent over the ukulele version of over the rainbow, so the lightning and bird of paradise were born together. Ride the Lightning is an all time favorite of mine, and a common poster tag line for movie premiere season, so I like that. I’m stoked on how they turned out- nice and crisp.” - Johnny Collinson

“The design on my strap was inspired by the arrow sash. It features a traditional colourful woven belt, traditional to Quebec back in it's early days. It's now seen on the Bonhomme Carnaval, during the Quebec winter festival, and I just liked how it looked and knew it would make a good design for a goggle strap.”

“For the past four years Smith has allowed me to have at it with my ID goggle designs. I originally started with pen to paper illustrations and slowly became more bold and expressive over time. It’s important for me to create imagery that’s unique. For this design I was manually manipulating scans with real roses, seeing how I could generate movement and a textile feel without digital generation... while still making it look organic. In a way this is my take on the industry standard of “shrink it and pink it,” but doing it in the right way where intention and creativity were the driving factor behind the outcome.”
