“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” -Maya Angelou @saintmaryscollege#bellesgrad2018

Yesterday I attended my first Take Back the Night sponsored by Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, and Holy Cross College. For those who don't know, Take Back the Night is an event where men and women stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking.
It was one of the coldest (thank you rain) and most emotional nights of my life, but I couldn't be more proud of everyone who made the event happen. As a survivor of sexual assault, I've struggled with self-blame and depression. This event reminded me that I'm not alone and that there are so many people out there who will keep fighting to prevent the violence from ever happening to another person. For any survivors out there-- I'm here and I'm always ready to listen. "Yes means yes, no means no. Whatever we wear, wherever we go."
I obviously didn't get the memo that it was an all black event #RIPFeve
