Danny, a resident at The Arc Jacksonville Village, recently gave a presentation at the 2019 National Down Syndrome Society's Down Syndrome Adult Summit in Detroit, Michigan. Danny was part of a panel discussing independent living and shared information about The Village and his experiences. Great job, Danny!
During #VolunteerAppreciationWeek we would like to thank our Sparc Young Professionals Council! They volunteer their time to plan and promote events for the group, engage young professionals in the Jacksonville community and spread the mission and vision of The Arc Jacksonville. We are so appreciative of all you do!
Last week two students from The Arc Jacksonville's High School High Tech program, funded by The Able Trust, traveled to Gainesville to compete in the regional @abletrust’s Jeannie Amendola Speech & Research Contest. One of our students, Zeige, won the contest and will move on to compete in the State Finals in June. Congratulations, Zeige!
The next volunteer we would like to highlight during #VolunteerAppreciationWeek is Maureen! She has been volunteering with The Arc Jacksonville for the past four years, teaching yoga every week as well as providing the yoga mats and pillows. She also brings Christmas presents to her students every year!
Maureen’s free class, adapted to the needs of the students and made available where they are, meets an important need in our community. The individuals who attend have made real progress in being able to successfully complete the poses, increasing their flexibility, being able to relax and feeling accomplished. Thank you for your dedication, Maureen! We appreciate you!
Ms. Bernadette has been volunteering for almost two years at The Arc Jacksonville, where she runs a computer lab two afternoons a week. She uses her time and computer skills to teach our participants about technology. Her computer labs are among the most popular activities offered! She interacts with each person respectfully and has gotten to know everyone as an individual. She says, “I enjoy helping people, and I love giving back.” We appreciate you so much, Ms. Bernadette! Thanks for all you do!
Enjoy light refreshments, network with other young professionals and congratulate the graduates at the On Campus Transition Graduation Party, hosted by Sparc Young Professionals Group. We hope to see you there! Find more information here & RSVP here: https://mailchi.mp/arcjacksonville/sparc-octgradparty
On Saturday, participants from The Arc Jacksonville were invited to attend the @timtebowfoundation’s Golf Classic! They loved watching the tournament and taking photos with @chipgaines and other celebrities, but their favorite part of the day was meeting @timtebow himself!
Congratulations to Nina Greene for receiving a Women of Distinction in law award for the work she has done on behalf of people with developmental differences! Her son and inspiration for this work, Randy, a resident of The Arc Jacksonville Village and our Marketing Office Assistant, was at the award ceremony to celebrate his mom's achievements.
Keep Jacksonville Beautiful stopped by The Arc Jacksonville Village today to present residents with a certificate of appreciation for their participation in the 24th Annual St. Johns River Celebration Cleanup on March 16th. Village residents joined more than 400 volunteers to cleanup Duval County. Together, 12,210 pounds of litter, debris and trash was collected, ensuring that it doesn’t end up in the St. Johns River.
As we look back on Blake Bortles' time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, we are so thankful for all that he and his Foundation has done for The Arc Jacksonville. He generously provided scholarships to participants in our Summer LIFE program, he spent time with residents at The Arc Jacksonville Village and invited our participants to attend his charity golf tournament. Blake, thank you for making a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental differences and supporting the Jacksonville community! Good luck with the Rams, the LA community is lucky to have you!
