I’ve had an absolute blast doing this takeover the past few days. Even though my time on this account and my time at college is just about up, you can always use me as an honest resource and filter for questions you may have at @kole_bailey. As a graduating Bachelors of Business, my class and I had the opportunity to encompass every lesson from our time here for our senior capstone charity dinner last October. The “Sweeter in the South” concept was decided by our students, from the theme, to the menu, decor, music selection, and overall flow of service for our 120 guest dinner. I had the great opportunity to be the student selected Assistant General Manager along with the legendary GM @clairecrosby. Enjoy some “sweet” pictures from our event taken by @murdocirl @dnnny100. Over this past summer, myself and my class ventured to the @ciagreystone campus for our Sustainable Farm to Table Studies concentration for the most humbling and hardest of work I’ve done in my time at CIA. The motto of “Food is Life. Create and Savor Yours” came to life as we were tasked with prepping garden beds, selecting seeds, and growing our own produce for the 12 weeks in the heart of Napa. As we were getting our hot and spicy summer tans, we went on constant field trips visiting local and legendary produce, dairy, meat, and fish producers to learn the road our food takes before hitting the cutting board, from the simple seed, to the life, death, breakdown and consumption of a heritage pig for our end of the semester charity dinner, a dinner produced and verbally presented entirely by Farm to Table, Advanced Baking and Pastry, and Advanced Wines students for the public and the amazing food producers that made the dinner possible. Coming from high school where I was socially anxious and felt my voice was not important, I tried to make college my blank slate. On my first day freshman year, whether it was fate or not, just so happened to be when RAs were being hired. After a lengthy interview process of shadowing duty nights, formal interviews, and social setting testing, I received my position as an RA around 3 years ago today, and I haven’t looked back since. In an industry where what you say and what you do is vital to a restaurant experience, my years in Res Life have taught me the value of human connection in both your personal life and beyond. Your programs won’t succeed if you do not express to people your personality, and you cannot build a community without showing people who you truly are. I have been humbled to work with some of the most devoted, real, and wild people I’ve met through my years as an RA. As a Bachelor’s Ambassador I work with my peers and administrators on campus to educate students on the value of our Bachelor’s Degree and our many concentrations via educational events. With new options opening every year, each CIA Bachelor’s alum has a better chance of graduating with a specialization that sets them apart in the working world. I had a sweet opportunity to work with my pals and educate my school on my Farm to Table concentration, which I’ll be talking about in the next few days!
