In case you missed it, or house is currently inundated with chicken pox. Sam got over his pretty quickly and, to be honest, he must have had a fairly mild dose because he only had about 30 spots. Meg, on the other hand, is completely covered in sores and has been walking around with her arms out like you do when you stupidly sunburn your back on the beach: ‘Ow! Don’t bloody touch me!’. Jack, meanwhile, is a couple of days behind her, so is mainly feeling grotty, coughing lots and wanting copious cuddles. Meg was super screamy last night so @dr_rachel_eyre had to sleep in their room to pat her every hour or so, which means it’s my turn tonight 😰. Here’s hoping we’re over the worst of it, but if not, wish us luck. 🤞🏻 #chickenpox #twins

Meg was reunited with Jack today - he came out in hives overnight so had to stay off nursery with her (and me) 🤷🏼‍♂️. ‘What’s that bro? You’ve got spots too? I know what’ll take your mind off them... Tickle fight!’. #twins #chickenpox #sister

When’s the worst possible time for a child to do a poo in the bath? How about when the water is completely opaque due to the anti-chickenpox oats you’ve just laced it with? Yeah, that way the first you know about it is when said poo floats to the surface and past your hand. (Cheers, Meg.) On a more serious note, Meg and I got some quality time together today as she’s just come down with chicken pox, so I had to take the day off work. (Cheers, Sam.) Meg may be a bit ill but she was the life and soul today, we had lots of lovely chats and she even came out of the house this afternoon to meet Sam from school. I was a bit worried about Meg being separated from Jack - it was the first time they’ve been apart since they were tiny babies - but she was absolutely fine. In fact I think she quite enjoyed having me all to herself without Jack clambering all over us. 🤣 Fingers crossed Jack stays pox free or I’ll be at home with both of them tomorrow instead! 🙈 #twins #chickenpox

‘Come on Daddy, get your arse in gear - we’re ready for nursery. The hats? It’s called *style* daaahling. You should look it up.’ #twins #hats

I’m feeling conflicted. I’ve had a truly brilliant Christmas with these three little personalities, but I’m also rather looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll miss their little faces, but the idea of sitting in a nice quiet office and drinking a cuppa that still contains some residual heat does hold a certain appeal. Just me? 🤣 #twins #bigbrother #backtowork

It won’t surprise anyone to learn that @dr_rachel_eyre and I had contrasting ideas about what how we should spend our day off without Meg and Jack. Rach wanted us to reorganise the entire house (over my dead body 🤦🏼‍♂️), whereas I floated the idea of taking Sam on a train journey across the country (Rach pointed out, fairly, that this might be somewhat foolhardy the day before school restarts). In the end, we compromised on Jodrell Bank observatory (a South Manchester staple 😂), although we were a bit disappointed, because it seems to have gone downhill since we last visited, with lots of the exhibits closed, broken, or missing altogether(!) So we spent £14 to get in, £10 on coffee/cake, £4 on parking (and Sam conned us into buying him a £6 model rocket 🤷🏼‍♂️) for the grand total of half an hour wandering around before Sam said ‘I’m bored!’. To be fair to Rach, she was very gracious and didn’t say ‘I told you so!’ but I know she was cursing me under her breath for depriving her of precious organisation time. Tomorrow: back to school! 😬 #4yearold #dayout #parenting

If you’ve followed me for any length of time (thanks!) you’ll know that I try to be as honest as possible. So I’m posting my best nine on the proviso that these lovely images don’t really reflect just how tough this year has been. There have been some amazing moments, like seeing Jack and Meg walk for the first time, hearing their first words (‘Peppa’ and ‘more’ 🙈) and walking Sam to his first day at big school. Overall, though, 2018 has been a year of bloody hard graft. Juggling work and childcare (thanks, grandparents!). Getting on with @dr_rachel_eyre (I know I can be a right pain in the arse Rach!). Staying on top of everything when there never seem to be enough hours in the day (Rach is a *lot* better at this than me.) But we made it! We got through with all three children still alive and our sanity and relationship (relatively) intact. So here’s to building on that super solid foundation in 2019, 🤣 and wishing everyone our there a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. #happynewyear #2019 #twins #bestnine

He might only be 4 months old but cousin Arlo has impeccable taste in Christmas present pyjamas. And Sam’s new Gekko mask is particularly useful for hiding his chickenpox, making him look a bit less like an urchin. 🤣 #pjmasks #peppapig #twins

Christmas number 2. We were at my mum’s so there may have been a *few* presents. A particular highlight for me was the LED karaoke microphone with Bluetooth speaker connectivity. I managed to yodel my way through a significant chunk of Tay Tay‘s back catalogue before my mum reminded me it was meant for Sam. 🤣 #Christmas #family #twins

Sam first met Ollie when he was a month old, which makes him one of Sam’s oldest friends. They get on like a house on fire and share similar interests, like being silly, shouting really loud and picking wild flowers 🤣. Ollie seems to like Jack and Meg too, so much so that, on our trip to the park this morning, he shared his Quavers with them and, in the process, convinced Sam to share his jealously guarded Wotsits too. Sometimes peer pressure can be a good thing, right? #bestfriend #4yearolds #twins

The time has come. We think Sam has chicken pox. 😰 He was slightly off colour over Christmas, which @dr_rachel_eyre and I attributed to him being tired and bit of a mardy bum - seems like we were being unduly harsh 🙈 When he woke up this morning he has some pretty impressive spots on his neck and they’re now pretty much everywhere. So, after bath time this evening I spent ten minutes coating Sam in cooling gel to help with his itches, trimmed his nails and found some trainer socks to act as makeshift scratch gloves. After I’d tucked him in, Sam shouted me to ask if he could take the gloves off so that he could suck his fingers to help him sleep: ‘But don’t worry Daddy, I’ll put them back on when I’ve finished.’ 🤣 So, pros and cons: Sam is off school for a few more days. But what are the chances of Meg and Jack being spot free before they go back to nursery? Place your bets now! #chickenpox #4yearsold #twins
