Video by @bertiegregory. A hungry gentoo penguin chick chases its parent through the colony. These comical pursuits are very common once the chicks are mobile. As the chicks repeatedly beg for food, the adults slowly reach a threshold at which point they suddenly bolt off! It's easy to anthropomorphise and assume the adult is just running away in frustration. However, there are theories that suggest there's more to it. Gentoos often have multiple chicks. It's thought that these chases could ensure that only the fittest chick keeps up with the adult and subsequently gets fed. Video by @joelsartore | During moonlit nights, off the coasts of southern Japan, Brazil and Argentina, you might get lucky enough to see a flower hat jelly like this one emit fluorescent lights from its tentacles. These invertebrates have no brain, heart or real eyes and yet, incredibly, they are predatory animals. To hunt, these jellies will hide amongst the seagrass, waiting for an unsuspecting fish to swim by. By stinging their prey with their venomous tentacles, they’re able to subdue it and will consume entire fish at a time. While a sting from this jelly will definitely hurt and likely leave a rash, it is not fatal to humans.
This flower hat jelly was photographed at @AquariumPacific, where they are displayed under moonlight conditions to highlight their fluorescence.

SENIOR SUNDAY! @susiesseniordogs has an adoptable dog from DOWN UNDER! And that ear though! Meet Buddy! He's full of energy and overflowing with cuteness! And he's up for adoption in the Melbourne, Australia area. Buddy was surrendered by his former elderly owner who was unable to take care of him anymore. He will do best with a family who is looking for a well-trained dog, but who can also keep up with his youthful spirit. Buddy may be a "senior," but Buddy is anything but retired! He still ADORES playing fetch with his tennis ball and his puppy-like antics will keep you entertained for years to come.
@second.chance.animal.rescue wrote, "Buddy is a lovable, high energy, inquisitive, spoilt cutie. He's enthusiastic and loves playing tug of war, soccer and fetch, and he will play for as long as you can keep up with him! He's toilet trained and easy to get in bed at night. Buddy must be an only dog at home as he's terrified of other dogs and cats. He's also a fussy eater who likes to get his own way, but you can't help but adore him when he gives you his belly and grins! He initially is shy but once he warms up he fully bonds to his family. Due to his shyness, young children are not recommended. Lastly, Buddy has some arthritis in his knees that will need ongoing supplements for." Buddy is up for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue located in Epping, Australia - just 30 minutes north of Melbourne.
To adopt Buddy, please email info@secondchanceanimalrescue.com.au with questions or to submit an application.

Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPmoveit
Inspired by the Winter Olympics, this weekend’s goal is to create photos and videos celebrating the power of movement, as in this featured photo by Thai Haong (@loewe7).
You don’t have to be an athlete to capture the everyday action around you, like a spontaneous trampoline session or a daily run through the park. Keep an eye out for repeating shapes or colorful backdrops to elevate your images.
Play with different viewpoints to maximize energy. Make us feel the drama with intense expressions and extreme angles, like an unexpected selfie during an exhilarating cheerleading practice.
Use creative tools like slow-motion or time-lapse to add another layer of depth to your submission. Capture the blur from a crashing wave while surfing or a freeze frame of a mid-air jump in order to transport us into the action.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPmoveit hashtag only to photos and videos taken over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video taken over the weekend is eligible to be featured next week.
