RECRUITMENT . In the last week a hot topic for clinic owners in Halifax, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver was recruitment. . Over the last 12 years I’ve worked with hundreds of therapists across 🇨🇦 and now into the United States, England, and Australia. In Canada, the unemployment rate of the profession (those seeking employment as a physiotherapist) is 0.3%. There are NO therapists sitting on the couch waiting for the 📞 to ring! . What does this mean for your practice, clinical team, and ability to meet patient demand for service? . Have you bullet-proofed your clinic against, . - Therapist leaves abruptly. - Vacations. - Maternity/Paternity leaves. - Personal leaves of absence. - Termination . Well, it means…ALWAYS BE BUILDING YOUR BENCH. . The large clinic networks have full time recruiters on staff combing through social media, LinkedIn, and contacting therapists 24/7. They start by asking therapists what they don’t like about their current clinic, compensation, then dangle career advancement in front of them. . Other clinics are turning to social media and building their brand to attract therapist talent – as they should be! Large networks can’t do this…well, they aren’t doing it well and probably never will. It’s not part of their strategy. . I’ll be speaking more about healthcare consolidation and looking behind the curtain…TRUST ME...I’ve lived it. . Back to recruitment. In reality, because of the contractor nature of the industry there are many therapists out there that, . - May be looking for a change, in a rut or overworked. - Have no clear career path at their current workplace. - Are looking for a leadership role. - Want to become a specialist (e.g. Pelvic Health). - Are working in a clinic with poor culture. - Are looking for a change in lifestyle. - Want to make the jump to ownership. - Want to be swayed to work somewhere else. . This is an excellent opportunity to find the right therapist that aligns with your clinic culture, treatment philosophy, and leadership needs . Recruitment is only 1 piece of the HR puzzle. PATIENT RAPPORT. . Quick trip to Halifax discussing how to operationalize patient rapport at Assessment. . Most patients have been to rehab multiple times in their life and met several clinicians . Not only do they look for a therapist that is strong clinically but someone who is confident, they can trust, they like as a person, and can show them a clear path to success/recovery. . Of course, I don't think anyone will disagree that developing rapport with a patient leads to commitment to the treatment plan, and a committed patient is more likely to achieve their outcomes - physical, mental, social, economic, and spiritual . People on the east coast are some of the friendliest I've ever met. I have fond memories of people I use to work with out here. . On to the next destination 🚀 . #halifax#physiotherapy#physiocanhelp#physio#physicaltherapy#patient#patientexperience#rapport#clinician#therapy#therapist
TEAMWORK . From the "Oracle of Omaha" himself. . Delivering excellent patient experience and efficient clinic operations are dependent on teamwork: the patient, the patient's support system (family, friends, doctor, etc), patient experience coordinators, patient experience managers, chief fun officer, clinicians, clinical director, partners (digital marketing company), middle managers, and the owners. . Build and develop your team in the best interest of the patient. . #physiocanhelp#physicaltherapy#patient#patientexperience#physiotherapy#teamwork#warrenbuffet#clinic
MENTORSHIP . Nima Arkani-Hamed, “yesterday's discovery is today's background is tomorrow's calibration.” . I haven’t met my physics and mathematics mentors but have applied their methodologies, learnings, and insights to my own work – business and technology in physiotherapy. . I’ve spent the last 15 years of my career as a physiotherapist, on the business side helping grow one of the largest clinic networks in Canada (100+ locations), and founding tactics that drive clinic performance. . Throughout that journey I have met many inspired people and companies. I consider myself fortunate to have been invited, partnered or collaborated with @thericklau@scottmarkk@vinnierehab@borisrehab@drkev_hybrid@michaelbercasio@iamlarrylau@darrylyardley@paul8moon@maggiebpt@therohanraheja@nseth08@jerrydurhampt@pirateofhc@cpaprivatepractice to name a few. . Over the last year I have worked in a cave documenting the blueprint on how to align patient experience with clinic organizational structure, operations, culture, team buy-in, and revenue growth strategies. This includes clinic strategies, tactics, tools, metrics, training material, and the implementation steps. . In 2018 and beyond I aim to continue to meet clinic owners, therapists, and students that are driven to work on their craft, business, and make a dent in the rehab industry . Ultimately, we are all moving towards the same vision – increasing the likelihood of patients achieving their outcomes, constantly improving patient experience, and optimizing the delivery of care. . I will be posting more about mentorship and how it has guided me to a clear path to success. . #nimarkanihamed#physics#quantummechanics#qft#quantumfieldtheory#physicaltherapy#mentor#mentorship#physiotherapy#patientexperience#patient#physiocanhelp
Clinic organizational structure is the foundation for you to unplug from the business. . But, organizational structure needs to be driven by these 4 leadership pillars: . 👁 Set the vision and get people to buy-in . ⚡️ Add people to your team that are strong where you are weak . 🥇 Put people in the right roles and give them a clear path to success . 📊 Mentor your leaders so they are empowered to make decisions without you in the best interest of the patient and clinic . Overall, your clinic will be a learning and development (training) company that can run independently of you. . How does clinic culture fit in? Stay tuned! .
