Matjiesfontein, South Africa. Padstals are insitutions in South Africa. These farm stalls sell pretty much everything from fresh nuts to saucepans, from heart shaped lavender cookies to South African designed and crafted cushion covers. The offer varies from shop to shop, from owner to owner and from town to town. Often there is a little café, where you can eat tomato sandwich, carrot cake or melktart and drink a cup of Rooibos tea or coffee. Padstals are heaven in a cottage. name. 🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻

Victoria West, South Africa. This town in the Central Karoo was founded in 1843 and is named after Queen Victoria (England). Imagine this, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa was a town with the same name and it was agreed to add the direction East or West to distinguish the two from each other. A little bit of pragmatism never killed nobody. Back to the Karoo. I try to explain it. An incurable plague could rage across the globe and being here you would not hear about it. Many places in the Karoo are the ultimate road less travelled destination. It is suitable for real adventure seekers, but also for families with children. The Karoo is the heart of South Africa. Vast. Silent. Harsh. Tranquil. Fun. Elegant. Give examples where towns had been given the same name. 🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻

Vryburg, South Africa. In this part of the world there is farmland as far as the eye can see and further than that. I could follow the clouds travelling along the horizon... and there it was, a dusty trail and the chance to stop and take a photo. The so-called 'Free Citizens' proclaimed the Republic of Stellaland in 1882 under the leadership of a farmer from the South Africa Republic (called Transvaal at the time). They agreed on a capital and called it Vryburg. Vry = free, burg = citizen (burger is citizen). It pays off to understand a bit of Dutch. Vryburg feels like a rather sleepy country town, and I find out that it is called the Texas of South Africa. Here is the most romantic thing: The Republic Stellaland (land of the star) was named after a comet that was visible in the skies when the Republic was established. I didn't see a comet but it is a stunning place to touch the clouds, even when it is for a few moments in time only. Have a stellar start into the week. Please, tell about a romantic historical fact. 🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻

Setlagole, South Africa. From Palapye in Botswana on the way to Vryburg in South Africa. I stopped over in Gabarone, the capital of Botswana and made my way to Zebra Drive to see (again) where Mma Precious Ramotswe lives. She is the main character from the Alexander McCall Smith Novels The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. I deleted all photos from my last visit and had to go again to take a few new photos. On my way there I got lost and found a temple (see yesterday's photo). I crossed the border into South Africa in Ramatlabama and saw this facade soon-ish after. So much to see. Have a happy Friday. 🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻

Gaborone, Botswana. I didn't see this one coming and I found this temple while I got lost in Botswana’s capital. Yes, it happens, but only the most stubborn drivers manage to get lost with a GPS. The first Sikh family came to Botswana in the late seventies. Over the years more Sikh families arrived in Botswana from Zambia, Kenya and India and they built a Holy Gurudwara Sahib (place of worship). The first gurdwara was built in Kartarpur, Pakistan in 1521. The Sikh religion does not believe in caste, colour and creed and recognizes no distinction of wealth or social position. Today there are 40 Sikh families in Botswana. What did you find... unexpectedly?

Chobe NP, Botswana. This is the last sexy sunset photo of this national park. Have you heard of #igramethical? I'm disappointed in all the ones who don't talk to me anymore after I started this initiative. I told you I'm frustrated about the seemingly uncontrollable use of shady tricks on Instagram. Cheating is sadly widely accepted. What exactly am I talking about and what are social media fraudsters? All users who buy followers or auto likes on Instagram or engage in any other form of performance-enhancing activities undermine the quality of work of their peers. Not only that, simulating interest is misleading customers, it is deceptive advertising. These people aren't social media managers, influencers or strategists; they are social media fraudsters. I just don’t want to accept unethical behaviour any longer. We all read the clever tips on how to gain followers, as in for example, like five photos, leave one comment and everybody follows you. No, this is spam behaviour, you are not sincere. There are countless commenting groups, Instagram pods, where it's organized to like a photo and comment on each other’s content to simulate high engagement. What happens now is when I comment on a photo of a stranger (remember it is social media), others treat me like a bot. No one trusts the next person anymore. Use the hashtag #Igramethical in all your future posts, if you set your own likes, your comments are genuine, you are interested, you want to learn about something/someone, you follow others because you love their content, you are not hiding in the background like a ghost or spy, you don’t buy followers, you won’t follow users to gain followers and unfollow later, you mark promotion as promotion, you use relevant hashtags only, you are in short considerate towards other people on social media. Sexy social media hack: Tell all companies you would like to work with about this initiative. There is nothing wrong with being honest. .

Chobe NP, Botswana. When I arrived, I saw two vervet monkeys sitting in this tree. An adult and this youngster. I stopped my vehicle and the adult apparently wasn’t too sure what to make of that and decided to better hide securely behind the little one. Please swipe through to see the story unfold. The kid was inquisitive and fearlessly rocked its body cheekily from left to right and up and down to get a good glimpse of me. This. Moment. Be as fearless as this little vervet, never stop asking questions. And, if somebody is too scared and wants to sit in the back offer your support and stand up for that person. Easy as pie. Have a happy Tuesday. 🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻

Chobe NP, Botswana. I eat glitter for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the water wading hammerhead fancies eating amphibians. Can you see who he found here? I was so very lucky to be around at the right moment when I arrived at the time of the hammerhead's either late breakfast or early lunch. One look at its head and you understand why this bird is called hammerhead. And yes, you are right, in the background that is elephant poo. Imagine you’d have to eat a toad next to poo. Have a happy Monday. 🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻

Chobe NP, Botswana. Beautiful birds shortly before sunset. Exciting sighting, so many bee eaters at once. What about you? Do you also feel that Instagram is somehow over? I mean it works beautifully if you arrange with others to comment on each other’s photos, if you ask others to follow you, if you buy likes and buy followers. But for the rest of us? What do you think? Thoughts please. 🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻

Chobe NP, Botswana. Let's go somewhere only we know. Live out your dream of freedom and solitude. Imagine spending the night here, looking at the night sky; think of all the stars. Getting up in the morning brewing speciality coffee and having avocado on sourdough (put in whatever you fancy) for breakfast. Dream big. Where would you like to stay for a night?
