That moment when everything lines up perfectly 🤩. This was shot at the incredible Lost Chambers Aquarium in #Dubai during my Aquaman stunt earlier this year 🧜🏽♂️. I’m currently back in Dubai which has brought back some great memories from that adventure 🇦🇪. I could never have planned for what happened that day! A spontaneous half joking idea to be the 1st person to free dive the #LostChambers aquarium turned into a full on production trying to create something special for the launch of @aquamanmovie. This was the initial shot I had in mind before heading to @visit.dubai and getting permission from the awesome @atlantisthepalm to do something even more special. I’d seen tons of pictures from this spot but few videos, which got me excited. I wanted to capture a moment where the rays would majestically surround a silhouetted person showing off what the place is really like vrs a lot of the photoshopped edits which are online. As the rays were passing by I knew I’d got the shot and then 3 decided to simultaneously rise to the surface all facing the glass, they really put on a performance for the camera 🙌🏽. Some people will think this is fake and that I mirrored a photo but if you look closely you can see the slightest of body and hair movements about 10 seconds in 😉. It’s always a massive compliment when people think my stuff is fake as that’s often the goal, create something totally unique that questions reality 🤓. Sadly I’m only in Dubai this time around for 48hrs. A quick pitstop enroute to The Seychelles with @jeremyjauncey. Plotting something very cool from there...stay tuned 🤫. When the whole BD Team goes to Jamaica... 🇯🇲🙃. What a week it’s been as 41 of us from @BeautifulDestinations headed for a company retreat to #Jamaica. Just over a year ago #BeautifulDestinations became the Creative Agency of Record for Jamaica. This was a huge moment for the business and fundamentally changed the way we work with countries & brands. We have a lot of exciting things happening with @visitjamaica over the next few months but for this trip it was all about the #BDTeam. Getting all full time employees in one place for some quality time together. The goal was for us to relax, have fun, build deeper relationships with each other and generally enjoy the beauty of the island. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the amazing people that we have at the company and can’t wait for us to continue to build something special together. Thank you so much for all that you guys do! My favourite memory from the trip has to be all of us getting into the ocean at 2am (under the Milky Way), with each person sharing a personal story about their journey getting to where they are today. The bottles of wine were flowing as was some great banter, and jelly fish too 😫! Having the whole team together lead to a lot of creative ideas too. For this shot I wanted to create something for @beautifulcuisines that would show off @rockhousehotel in a unique way. The concept was to create a drone sequence which would gradually bring different BD Team members into frame. Starting with @cearakirk having breakfast, to @jakeirish_ with the flip, @loganstrongarms on the 1st paddle board and @cshep on the 2nd. I was hiding in the bush getting the shot 😉. How many of you knew that Jamaica had Maldives/Tahiti vibes? (🎶: “Is This Love” by Bob Marley - Montmartre Remix) #VisitJamaica.
Taking you up the Stairway to Heaven...possibly for the last time ⛰😳. The Haiku Stairs on Oahu, Hawaii, amidst the lush Koolau mountain range, has almost 4,000 vertical steps that brings you high into the clouds. I did this incredible hike for the first time 2 years ago and to date it’s still the best outdoor experience I’ve ever had! However, the #StairwayToHeaven is a hot topic right now as it’s days could well be numbered. On August 7th a decision will be made to either shut them down or pass ownership over to the parks & recreation department of Hawaii, to manage as an official tourist attraction. Praying for the latter! This has been a huge debate on the island for years and it’s great to see the Mayor of Hawaii trying to find a positive solution that’s legal, sustainable and good for the community. Knowing all of this, I challenged myself to come up with something original, the goal to share a perspective that has never been seen before as a possible goodbye ☹️. Here’s the 1st attempt, a 360 perspective of the grueling vertical climb 💪🏽. The 2nd attempt will be coming soon as myself & @nicolas_gaillard teamed up to create a FPV aerial perspective that should blow your mind, so excited about that footage! To ensure we nailed the shots we spent a full 24hours executing everything. That included hiking up & down the stairs twice, then sprinting up & down it twice as well as camping at the summit in the satellite bunker (only slept for 30 minutes 😩). We got so lucky with the conditions allowing us to capture the stairs in all of its glory; sunrise, sunset, clear skies, rain, sun, fog & empty! Huge thank you to the squad for helping out and getting us up safely @storyofsage, @kelsealoha, @shnooz & of course @nicolas_gaillard. It’s important to note that there is a legal way of getting to the summit. Referred to as the “back way” it’s a 5-7hr ridge line hike (up & down) that we did and I’d highly recommend. Safe, legal & beautiful! Fingers crossed for a positive outcome next month as this is something that should be on everyone’s bucket list! 🤞🏽. As always, great vibes in #Hawaii 🤙🏽.
Ultimate fail attempting to drive a scooter around the beautiful streets of #Mykonos 🇬🇷 🛵 🤦🏽♂️. I don’t even have my driving license so this was never going to end well in #Greece 🤣. This was shot with @jakeirish_ & @sammcglone early in the morning so we could get the streets completely to ourself. I love how the 360 perspective shows everything from the iconic cobbled streets, to the blue & red stairs and windows, as well as the famous cherry blossoms - I also colour coordinated the outfit too. Thought I’d keep the natural audio on this clip so you can hear me stalling and panicking as I screw up the shot! 😩 Fun times with the team @cavotagoomykonos, thanks to them we got an introduction to the Mayor of Mykonos (@konstantinos_koukas) who gave us permission to execute this shot for @beautifuldestinations. These streets are closed to cars, scooters & bikes 😉 #BDTeam.
As @BeautifulDestinations continues to push purpose-driven storytelling, we wanted to create something powerful that would engage our community by touching on an important cause — empowering young people to get out and have their voices heard.
Last year I met with the European Parliament in Brussels to speak about programs that encourage today’s youth to express themselves, stand up for what they believe, and make an impact. During the visit we learned about the declining numbers of youth participation in important global elections, and it was this that inspired us to help make a difference and encourage the next generation to vote.
The objective of “Euro Trippin’” was to make something fun and relatable for the European Parliament that would spread the positive message of getting out to vote in May 2019. Timing here was key as we purposely launched the video 30 days before the original Brexit deadline to insert ourself into a top of mind conversation. This isn’t about getting political or picking sides it’s about expressing yourself, standing up for what you believe and getting out to vote 🗳. In the end of the day it’s our future 👍🏽. Special thanks to: @EuropeanParliament & @Ep_Eye
This one is for all the awesome #Turkish people who have supported the @beautifuldestinations x @johnny_fpv video 🙌🏽 🇹🇷. Couldn’t be happier and prouder to see all the hard work paying off! The positive reaction from you guys has meant a lot to me! We’re almost at half a million views, THANK YOU so much 😍. Crazy to think this shot from @Cappadocia didn’t even make the final video, we are sitting on so much footage that no one has seen 🙈. For every #FPV shot that Johnny captured I got the supporting cinematic angles on the Inspire 2 & Mavic 2 drones. The initial goal was for the video to be a mash up of FPV and cinematic. On reviewing the footage we realized that the FPV content was so good and the flow would be better if we stuck just to FPV. There are a ton of #FPVdrone mashup videos online but no one had made a truly cinematic single destination focused FPV video, that became our motivation. With @jakeirish_ taking on the edit we knew we’d create something special. One of the best parts about all of this is that @johnny_fpv has no idea the video has blown up! He’s currently in the Guatemalan rainforest with no WiFi so will be coming back to a nice surprise 🤗. Should we make a #BehindTheScenes making of video with all the other footage? We’ve got so much content like this sitting on our hard drives 😳. Back in New York City for a while 🌇🙌🏽. Thought I’d share one of my favourite #NewYork moments as we flew high above #Manhattan as the fog descended on the city💨. I always love the little details; 1. Can you spot the reflection of the #WorldTradeCenter on the side of the heli? 2. If you zoom in the only other two things above the cloud line are the spire of the #EmpireStateBuilding & building 432 Park Avenue. 3. I slowed down the propeller so it’s perfectly synced with the music 🤓. Time to start scouting some #NYC locations as @beautifuldestinations has something very special happening in the city the 1st week of June @thejasonpaul 🤭. Sharing the sunrise with 150 other hot air balloons as the colours popped over @cappadocia in Turkey 🇹🇷🎈🔥. I’m back in one of my favourite places in the world, the beautiful town of @goreme in #Cappadocia. This place is completely unique, not only for its famous hot air balloon experience but more so for its crazy landscape and odd shaped natural structures 🍆🤣. I’ve been here for the last few days with the legendary @johnny_fpv working on @beautifuldestinations latest innovation project! We’ve experienced all four seasons across a short period of time as a freak snow storm hit the region yesterday. The content we’ve been able to get thanks to the awesome guys @sultan_carpets, @henna_hotel, @artemiscavesuites, design_cappadocia & @butterflyballoons has been unreal! If you’ve never heard of this place before it NEEDS to be at the top of your bucket list! A special thank you has to be said to the “Godfather” of #Kapadokya and his awesome team. Mehmet along with the help of @pilot_faith, Mustafa & Hassan have made this a trip of a lifetime! If your thinking about coming here check out all the people and accounts I’ve tagged in this post, for places to stay and things to do. You are in the best possible hands with Mehmet and his team 🙌🏽. More to come soon on the #BeautifulDestinations x @johnny_fpv collaboration...it’s going to be very unique 😉. Side note, if you’ve read this far let me know what you think of the natural audio. Thought it was a cool little detail to hear the radio communication, the fire bursts as well as me trying to getting everyone hiding from the camera 🙊. #BDTeam#Goreme#Turkey 🇹🇷.
Catching a local Brazilian high-lining 3,000 feet above Rio De Janeiro 🇧🇷. This was a pretty special moment as @matiasderada, @cory.s.martin & I hiked to the summit of one of #Brazil’s famous boulders. Without enough time to do the 6-hour round trip hike up #PedraDaGavea, we decided to check out #PedraBonita, as it has similar views and only requires 30 minutes to reach the summit. As we began the climb, I got out the drone and started filming the stunning surroundings of #RioDeJaneiro. I suddenly saw what looked like a huge phone line linking the two mountain peaks and a small figure making its way across. It took a second before it dawned on me that someone was actually highlining against one of the world's most iconic backdrops, 3000 feet above Rio! My adrenaline started pumping as I realized I wouldn't have long to capture this serendipitous and extremely exciting #Brazilian moment. Witnessing this anywhere in the world would have been impressive, but it was so much more epic for me given that #Rio is one of my favorite cities in the world. You truly never know what you might come across while traveling 😊. (🎶: "Walking on a Dream" by @empireofthesunsound) #BeautifulDestinations#BDTeam.
A futuristic take on the world’s tallest building #BurjKhalifa 🇦🇪. I literally had 10 seconds and one attempt to pull off this shot, no room for error 😬. I wanted to capture an almost CGI style visual of #Dubai as visiting the city always make me feel like I’ve time traveled into the future. By moving my legs really quickly I knew that I could slow down this video to make it appear like my feet were moving normally while the traffic below would be in slow mo 🤓. Sunrise timing was key as the hazy light added this diffusion effect that glimmered across the buildings and my shoes. Huge thank you to the awesome team @rixospremiumdubai (@fettahtamince, @cenkunverdi & @jurgita.lion) for making my Dubai trip so special 😊. Can’t wait to come back! Fun times as always with @beautifuldestinations#BDTeam#BeautifulDestinations.
Back on Instagram and I’ve got so much to update you guys on! There’s been a ton going on @beautifuldestinations and this year I’ve got some HUGE goals and aspirations for the brand. 2019 is going to be the year of thinking bigger & better. Setting the bar high and achieving whatever we put our mind to. For my role at #BeautifulDestinations that means finding and working with THE best creative minds in the industry, the best talent within their respective fields and coming up with unique ideas that no one has done before. That focus is going to be across content, music, storytelling & sports to name a few. A lot has changed within the business that now means we can truly empower the creative community. I feel there’s a lot of saturation in the space right now of people either doing the same thing or copying each other. There’s a big difference between copying and being inspired by someone’s work. I’d love to see more original thinking across Social Media, pushing each other to work harder and smarter. We want to find the people who are going to be innovating in 2019, the ones that are creating their own unique styles 👍🏽. To kick off the year I thought I’d share this #Aquaman shot from Dubai as I feel it talks to a lot of the above. The #LostChambers in #Dubai has been on the bucket list for years, but one very particular shot by @jacob last year got me inspired. Everyone gets the photo standing in front of the glass looking at the incredible fish so I knew I wanted to do something different by focusing on video. After doing the incredible Scuba Diving experience offered by @atlantisthepalm I asked if anyone had ever free dived in the lagoon before. No one had so I knew it would make for some incredibly unique visuals. @aquamanmovie has just hit over $1 Billion at the Box Office and currently there’s a statue of @prideofgypsies in The Lost Chambers (can you spot him?). Check out my story right now to see how this all unfolded. What started as a fun idea turned into an experience that I’ll never forget. Huge thank you to @gshtfy for making it happen and @pixelville, @tgfromdubai & @jakeirish_ for helping with the content. (🎶: “Stranger Things Theme Song”).
Golden hour breakfast in bed at the incredible @cavotagoomykonos 🇬🇷. My expectations were very high on arrival in Mykonos as I’ve seen the island blow up on Social Media over the years. In my opinion, the Cavo Tagoo property is one of the main reasons for the islands’ social success. They’ve built an amazing experiential product that fuels content creation. What I mean by that is everywhere you turn is an instagrammable/shareable moment. This is not by accident and it’s genius! Instead of investing in traditional channels they’ve focused on an organic approach to marketing which has made this place one of the most talked about properties in the world. The team on the ground are hands down ahead of the rest of the hotel industry and it’s been an absolute pleasure spending time with every single person I’ve met on property. They don’t just understand Social Media, they live and breath it. It’s why they are the #2 most followed property in the world and I’m sure it won’t be long until they become #1. I came up with the concept for this shot after the #CavoTagoo team kindly put myself and the awesome @jakeirish_ in the Diamond Villa. The size of this Villa is insane and spreads over 2 floors. Photos are great for sharing a moment but a video makes you feel, it can also help show scale. I wanted to show the scale of this Villa and how my room opened up to not just the living room and pool but also the rest of #Mykonos. What better way than doing that than having breakfast in bed 🐷. This was a very difficult drone maneuver to execute as we had to film from inside the room with wind changes, obstacles and walls to clear. It was risky but we had to nail it. Huge shout out to Jake for the #Drone skills 💪🏽. We’ve had so many epic experiences over the last few days that I can’t wait to edit and share. Thanks to everyone here @cavotagoomykonos that’s made it all possible. Special thanks to @soulaliakou@konstantinos_koukas@ivysilvaphoto@sammcglone & Tasos the man behind the social success! Very impressed with this place 🤯. (🎶: “Sigh” by @shalloumusic 🚁: @jakeirish_) @beautifuldestinations@beautifulhotels#BeautifulDestinations#BDTeam#BeautifulHotels.
Finally made it to Venice for the first time and wow...it’s exceeded all of my expectations. #Venice has always been a place I wanted to visit but after the awesome @nainoalanger & @andyto made “Let’s Go Venice” for @beautifuldestinations the destination pushed its way to the top of my bucket list. If you haven’t seen that video check out #BeautifulDestinations YouTube channel as it will hands down make you want to visit. I arrived into Venice this morning on the sleeper train from Florence at 5:20am just in time for sunrise. In true #Italian style I got a warm welcome with an unreal sunrise. I’m here shooting with the awesome @jakeirish_ as we come to the end of BD’s Europe in 360 campaign. Often I get to a destination and immediately want to shoot it. For one of the first times ever I got here and was awe struck. Instead of immediately grabbing my camera I found myself just taking it all in. That hasn’t happened in a long long time! Excited to share what we get up to 🙌🏽🇮🇹 (🎶: “Sea of Voices” by @porterrobinson@racmusic re-mix this is a little tribute back to you lads @nainoalanger & @andyto - still one of my all time fav BD vids) #BDTeam#Italy#Venetian.
The beautiful city of Oia built into the Santorini coastline. This place really did live up to all of its expectations. September has been quite the whirlwind as I’ve embarked on an @beautifuldestinations challenge to visit 20 destinations in 30 days! It’s been challenging to say the least, spending 12-36hrs in each place. What I’ve loved is that we’ve essentially had a tease of each destination, teeing us up for a return trip in the future. 2 days in #Santorini was definitely not enough. We stayed at the incredible @charisma_suites thanks to the awesome @alexbirigos and found ourselves roaming the streets of #Oia climbing anything we could to get a unique perspective. This was one of my favourite shots of the trip as @matiasderada, @jakeirish_ & I captured the morning light hitting the buildings and cliffsides. This shot perfectly reveals the houses, hotels, coastline and water in a really peaceful way. Hopefully you guys have been enjoying the daily stories. I could write a book on all the crazy experiences we’ve had so far!! 😉 (🎶: “Abenaki” by @moddmusic 🚁: @matiasderada) #BeautifulDestinations#BDTeam.
Ticking off a bucket list experience this morning as myself @storyofsage & @matiasderada got up in a hot air ballon for sunrise 🤯. Cappadocia was the first destination that was brought to life for me through @Instagram. I remember back in the early days of #Instagram seeing pictures of these balloons that blew my mind. I’d never heard of #Cappadocia before and I feel that Social Media has helped sky rocket the destination to a must visit. On this trip Matias, Sage & I have been discussing how some destinations blow up on IG and whether that’s a good or a bad thing. Sometimes destinations get so hyped up that they don’t live up to expectations or they get ruined by the explosion of foot traffic. I couldn’t be happier to say that Cappadocia is not one of those spots. In fact the place has exceeded all of my expectations. Every turn we take and each spot we go to keeps getting better and better. The hot air balloons are incredible but equally as impressive are the unique landscapes that surround the place. It’s no wonder they filmed Star Wars here as it really does feel like a different planet. If this place isn’t on your bucket list it needs to be! I wish we had longer here, 2 days is definitely not enough! Special thank you to @tiebowtie & @sultan_cave_suites for making this all possible. 💯% go and check them both out 🙌🏽. Enjoying a cup of coffee in the Blue Lagoon 🇮🇸☕️. This spot is definitely one for the bucket list! The #BlueLagoon is a geothermal spa in southwestern #Iceland. The spa is located in a lava field near #Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, a location favourable for geothermal power. Interestingly the lagoon was actually a mistake. In 1976 the Svartsengi Power Station began releasing excess water into the neighboring lava fields. Over a few years this began to form the initial geothermal pools. In 1981, people started bathing in it after its supposed healing powers were popularized. In 1992, the Blue Lagoon company was established, and the bathing facility was opened for the public making it the largest man made lagoon in the world. Crazy to think that the water is renewed every 2 days 💦. If you visit this place definitely get the lava face masks. Not only does it make for a funny picture but it’s rich mineral concentration of Sulfur & Silica are great for the skin 🤩. (🎶: “Underwater” by @rufusdusol - this is a new track by my friends #RufusDuSol go check them out 👍🏽) @BeautifulDestinations#BeautifulDestinations#BDTeam.
Someone call the coastguard...we’re shipwrecked in Bimini 😬🇧🇸⚓️. #Bimini is a beautiful island in the Bahamas home to white sand beaches, crystal clear blue waters, tons of sharks and tons of shipwrecks! For anyone that saw Michael Phelps swimming against sharks, it was here in Bimini 🦈. The island is less than 50 miles from Miami , making it the closest point in the #Bahamas to mainland America. It’s only 7 miles long, 1.5 miles wide and home to less than 2,500 people. If you want a real #Bahamian experience come here! For me Nassau was too commercial, I felt like I could have been in the States. Bimini however is authentic, it’s got character and it’s completely unspoiled. I often get up at hideous o’clock to get empty shots of places but in Bimini it really felt like we had the island to ourself. This shot was taken at the SS Sapona, the most visually impressive #Shipwreck on the island. It’s a cargo steamer that ran aground during a hurricane in 1926. After it’s crash it became an illegal warehouse for alcohol during the era of Prohibition. Interestingly it also became a floating nightclub during the Prohibition, with Americans escaping the strict US laws to get loose in the Bahamas 🙃! You’ve probably heard the term “The Rum Run” it all started here. Additionally, during World War II, the wreck was used for target practice by the U.S. Army Air Force and U.S. Navy. I love history like this and more so I love coming somewhere like this with an exact plan of attack for what I wanted to shoot. I’d seen some video of the Shipwreck but never an empty revealing drone pull up shot. Huge thank you to @ak_miamivice & @rwbimini for making this possible as we ventured to the wreck at 6am to capture the morning’s first light hitting the boat. It was just us in the middle of the #Caribbean 🙌🏽. (🎶: “Over Me” by @sharamjey 👩🏽: @larajulij) @BeautifulDestinations#BeautifulDestinations#BDTeam.
Go wish a very happy birthday to my awesome big brother @jeremyjauncey 🎈🐷. Another year has flown by full of adventures and I couldn’t be more grateful to have him always by my side. He inspires me everyday, he pushes me to do more and I wouldn’t be where I am today doing what I do if it wasn’t for him. As you get older you are meant to mature but for some amazing reason that doesn’t happen between us. Last month for example Jeremy pulled down my pants in the middle of Wholefoods in Soho as I was carrying a basket of groceries! 🤬 It was absolutely hilarious and he was crying with laughter. The best part was probably the old guy next to me who went mental and was so pissed off. I guess he didn’t get the brothers banter! Yes, being pantsed is a recurring theme between us and I’m currently plotting my revenge. At what age will we stop doing this? #Never 👴🏽🤣. One of my favourite things to do is to piss him off. I know exactly what he hates and what winds him up the most...I then absolutely love doing it. It’s funny working together and being brothers as there are times we need to be very serious and I just can’t be, I want to give him a wedgie or a dead leg but that probably wouldn’t go down too well at the office, setting the example of culture 😬. I hope some of you guys can relate to this kind of thing. Anyway, this was shot a few years ago when the #BDTeam visited The #Philippines for the first time 🇵🇭. I love how it looks like Jeremy is floating. The water really is that clear in #ElNido. Again, go send some kind wishes to @jeremyjauncey here’s to another year of beat downs, nick names and petty arguments...”why are you looking at me!!!” - inside joke 🤣. Here’s a different angle from last month’s helicopter flight over #ChristTheRedeemer with the awesome @vertical.rio 🚁🇧🇷. I always get a boost of energy after I’ve filmed something and immediately want to review it. That being said one of my favourite things about capturing content is to actually sit on the footage for a bit, let time pass and then revisit it from a fresh perspective. You always catch things you didn’t initially see and in this case I remembered I’d caught an angle flying directly over #Corcovado. If you missed my initial post check it out now on @beautifuldestinations 💪🏽. I like this perspective as you still get the crazy fog and light over #Sugarloaf Mountain but you also get a look down angle which helps showcase how special a moment it really was. With the sad news of #ArethaFranklin passing I thought I’d add my favourite track of hers to this video as a small tribute. I feel it’s fitting to “Say A Little Prayer” over this beautiful #Brazilian monument. I’ve certainly had my fair share of special moments happen to me at this location in #RioDeJaneiro. Waking up in Zimbabwe with no one else around but the noises of the animals 🦁🐘🦒🦏. This incredible property is @singita_ Pamushana. The #Singita Pamushana Lodge is the ecotourism arm of this 130,000 acre reserve. Its role is to help foster the sustainability of the wildlife and broader ecology, while enabling guests to experience the magic of a #safari experience at the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve. The rich tribal history of the region is the inspiration for the design of Singita Pamushana Lodge, drawing on the proud heritage of ancient #Zimbabwe. Perched atop a sandstone ridge overlooking the shimmering expanse of the #Malilangwe Dam and the lush mopane forests beyond, the lodge celebrates its incredible wilderness setting by bringing guests up close and personal with the big five in #Africa. I knew as soon as I arrived at this incredible property that I wanted to do a drone pull out shot revealing the lodge and it’s amazing surroundings. We couldn’t have asked for a better day with the glowing morning light and mist in the background. Good thing the awesome @david_beare was also visiting Singita as @jeremyjauncey was being a baby and didn’t want to get in the pool as it was cold 👶🏽. After a mini brothers argument between us both I was able to get David to execute the shot with me in it instead, he nailed it 👊🏽. Always funny brothers moments when Jeremy & I are on the road 😂! Experiencing a @singita_ property has been on the bucket list for years. Not only did it set the benchmark for a meaningful travel experience it opened up my eyes to the unexplored beauty of Africa. Can’t wait to get back 🌍. (🎶: “Kamuwe” @disfunktion 🚁: @david_beare) @BeautifulDestinations#BeautifulDestinations#BDTeam 🇿🇼.
Stillness over the city as Manhattan wakes up on a Monday morning. Last week I went up in the air for sunrise over #NYC with my good friends @flynyon. The conditions were perfect as the sun popped above the horizon. As the #NewYork skyline came into view I immediately thought about the opening scene of my favourite TV show “Billions” (@sho_billions). I had to recreate it! We asked our pilot to make a revealing pan over the city coming in via the #FinancialDistrict and downtown #Manhattan. It was 6am and this bustling city looked completely still. As I looked through the view finder of my camera I was freaking out. Bar a slightly different colour grade, the shot is almost identical (especially the landscape version). On a Sunday night I love chilling out and binge watching shows. My favourite show of the year so far has been “Billions”. The character development of Bobby Axelrod (@lewis_damian) and Chuck Rhoades (@_paulgiamatti) season after season is incredible! Anyone got any good show recommendations? Channeling my Brazilian energy today for @beautifuldestinations big football game against global advertising agency McCann ⚽️. This summer BDFC was born and tonight the pressure is on as we play the team at the top of the table 😬. It’s been a lot of fun over the last few months playing football against other businesses in New York. We’ve played Law firms, Ad Agencies & Consultants all in the spirit of team bonding. It’s a mixed 8 a-side league which is great as we push a positive message of inclusivity. As a kid I always wanted to be a professional football player. I love the sport so much and can’t wait to bring our “A Game” tonight. Wish us luck guys 🙌🏽! I shot this last month in #Rio at #Ipanema beach, one of my favourite places in the world. Enjoying the empty Lapa Stairs before the crowds of people swarm this famous Brazilian @Instagram spot 🇧🇷. This was shot a few weeks ago during @beautifuldestinations World Cup campaign when @matiasderada, @cory.s.martin & I explored #SouthAmerica. I’d been to #EscadariaSelaron also known as the #LapaStairs or #SelaronSteps before and it was absolutely packed!! This time we decided to head there at 6am on a day where the weather wasn’t great with the hope that it wouldn’t be busy. Bar a few locals leaving their houses we had the place completely to ourself 🙌🏽. The steps straddle both the #Lapa and #SantaTeresa neighbourhoods in #RioDeJaneiro. There are 215 steps measuring 125 metres long which are covered in over 2000 tiles collected from over 60 countries around the world. They were created back in the 1990’s by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón. He famously quoted this is “my tribute to the Brazilian people”. With their beautiful colours and design you can see why they’ve become such an Instagramable spot. I’ve been getting a lot of messages to do more IG Stories, thank you so much guys for enjoying them. On Thursdays going forward I’m going to try and post, even if it’s a few snaps, fun memories from our travels that have never been seen before. Hope you like the idea 👍🏽. Monday morning in New York as the city noises come alive and people start their grind for the week 💪🏽🌇. This was shot at sunrise as the fog descended over #Manhattan. I love how the clouds surround the #EmpireStateBuilding making it the only skyscraper that’s visible, apart from 432 Park Avenue (tallest residential building in #NYC) that pops up above the clouds towards the end of the clip. Here’s to a great week guys, working on a ton of exciting things right now. Excited to share more soon 👍🏽. Sitting on the billboards high above Times Square 😱. Back in #NewYork for the next 30 days and have a ton of content ideas to execute in the city. Who’s around, has some cool concepts and wants to collaborate? 🙌🏽 (🎶: “Rarities & B-Sides” by @smashingpumpkins) #TimesSquare#NewYorkCity 🇺🇸.
High above Rio De Janeiro taking in an unbelievable sunset 🇧🇷. For me, this moment was the highlight of our @beautifuldestinations South American adventure. Getting to this spot incorporated absolutely everything I live for. 1️⃣ It was all made possible by some awesome #Brazilian locals. Meeting and hanging out with the locals is always one of my favourite things to do while traveling. They know where to go, what to do and how to have a good time. A huge thank you to @pppleal, @paesdan & @luizhcrodrigues for getting us here 👊🏽. 2️⃣ There was drama! We had an hour to get to the summit of #MorroDoisIrmaos before sunset. The challenge was we were a 30 minute drive away to the start of the hiking trail and a 45 minute hike from the top. How did we make it? 🤔 3️⃣ Fitness. I like being active when I travel and this was quite the workout. Doesn’t get much better than mixing the outdoors and nature with getting a serious sweat on in #Rio💪🏽. 4️⃣ Content. This spot has blown up on @instagram and for years pictures from here have always over performed on #BeautifulDestinations. For me, I love going to a spot that’s been shot a million times and doing something different. Offering up a unique perspective that ideally inspires you to go there. 5️⃣ Friends. The #BDTeam has become a family for me and getting to share these moments with amazing people that share the same passions as I do brings us closer together. Such good memories with @cory.s.martin@matiasderada & @nickevansbd 🙏🏽. 6️⃣ Storytelling. As this experience started to unfold I knew it was going to make for an incredible story. I love documenting things in the moment and being able to reflect on them after. Capturing video moments of what happened allows me to relive them and also share them with you guys, which I really enjoy. 7️⃣ Spontaneity. Sometimes you just can’t plan for things and have to believe that it will all work out, with that positive mindset, it always does. Check out my IG Story today to see exactly what happened 😉. Peacefully walking down the beautiful streets of Dubrovnik as the morning light crept through the historic buildings. Just walking around this city made me feel like I was in a Medieval war film. Everywhere you turn in the #OldTown you have these beautifully crafted streets that make #Dubrovnik a photographers dream. Reuniting with @Jacob was awesome as it had been a good 8 months since we’d last caught up and easily a year since we’d shot together. Obviously we were up to no good and had the idea to climb the fort at 6am in the morning. The challenge with trying to climb an impenetrable medieval fort is exactly that...it’s impenetrable. Dubrovnik was built to keep fools from getting in and out over the high walls 🙃. We therefore failed with our mission 😫. Instead I had the idea to put the drone up in-between the streets and capture a low angle walking shot wearing the #Croatian colours @ivanrakitic 🇭🇷. We found the perfect street with a Croatian flag in view and timed the shot to capture a lone pigeon looking to get Instafamous 🤣🐦. As a kid, Mum (🐭) would always play us classical music, one of her favorites being the Nutcracker. This song is the “Waltz of the Flowers” by Tchaikovsky and it’s hypnotic feel worked perfectly for the vibe of this video. Amazing memories from last weekend’s adventure in #Croatia. Wandering the empty streets of Dubrovnik at 5am with @jacob. You would have never thought it but 4 hours early this place was completely packed with thousands of people celebrating #Croatia’s achievement of making it to the World Cup Final. We didn’t get the result we wanted (story of my life this World Cup 😫🤣) but we did get to experience the incredible passion, spirit and energy of the #Croatian people. It was amazing to see that despite the loss the people were still going nuts. Their pride of being the smallest country to reach the final in 68 years could be seen on the faces of every single local in #Dubrovnik 🇭🇷. The celebrations went on into the early hours of the night which was ideal for Jacob & I as we knew no one would be up at sunrise. After 2hrs sleep we got up and made our way to the #OldTown Square where the big screen was. Our only concern was that maybe the streets would be trashed, they couldn’t have cleaned it up already?! They had, which was ideal. Not only did we get the empty streets, we got them in pristine condition which is crazy given what they looked like a few hours earlier. I wanted to create a revealing drone shot of Jacob walking down #KingsLanding as the sun began to rise. For any of you #GameOfThrones fans this is the primary filming location for the amazing fictional city. I can see why they chose it as Dubrovnik really is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been too. Epic times catching up and shooting content again with @jacob 👊🏽. Edinburgh Castle in all of its glory 🏴. Always nice popping back home to Scotland and taking in the historic sites with Mum (🐭). We got lucky with the sunset colours in #Edinburgh yesterday which made for the perfect revealing shot of #EdinburghCastle ⚔️. Today’s a special day as one of my best mates @spratly3 is getting married. I couldn’t be more excited as the wedding is taking place at Glenalmond College. It’s where @jeremyjauncey & I went to school from 12-18. I’ve got so many amazing memories from school and it’s crazy to think I haven’t been back in over 10 years. For the Harry Potter fans out there, it was one of the proposed filming locations for Hogwarts. It’s a castle like school in the middle of nowhere with amazing architecture and character. Like Hogwarts the school was made up of different Houses that all competed against each other in sports and activities. It’s hard to explain or replicate the camaraderie of the House that you belonged too, mine was called Matheson’s and was 💯% the best! I’ve got my drone on me so will be getting some snaps to share on my stories later today. I’ve got some funny memories to share too...just wait for the naked run story 😂🏴. A few months back I made a video running down South Beach in Miami so when I landed in #Brazil I knew that I wanted to do something similar at #IpanemaBeach. In so many ways this video represents the last 10 days. We’ve been non stop running around #SouthAmerica chasing the World Cup. Sadly we didn't get the results we wanted, in fact a lot of you guys think the #BDTeam is cursed 😫😭. But we did get lucky from a content standpoint! For 10 straight days @MatiasDeRada, @Cory.S.Martin & I woke up at 4am to capture every sunrise opportunity. There were so many occasions where we were literally sprinting to catch that perfect moment. In Buenos Aires for example my cab driver took me to the wrong Sheraton hotel, 20 minutes before the game. I had to sprint a mile back to the hotel, to edit the footage and get it up in real time. In Cartagena, a torrential rain storm came out of nowhere while we were carrying all of our equipment in a vast open area. Again we had to sprint for cover to save our cameras and drones! In #Rio we decided to capture sunset from the incredible Morro Dois Irmãos. The challenge was we had 45 minutes until sunset and it's a 45 minute full on vertical hike to the peak of the mountain. I wasn't going to miss the light so ran it in 19 minutes 💪🏽. Running for Acai bowls, running to catch our flights and running to reconnect with our drones...at least I was able to keep my fitness up while away 😉. We meet again...😉🇧🇷. 8 months ago I had one of the best experiences of my life at this exact spot when I lost my drone over #ChristTheRedeemer 🐷. It was definitely a stressful & nerve racking day but the way people rallied to help me, all with the goal to retrieve my footage, was the perfect representation of the awesome #Brazilian people! On returning to this spot I wanted to create something special, something that every time I watched it would remind me of those positive memories in #Brazil. I needed a bit of help executing this and that came from the awesome @pedrofgonc. Pedro is the founder of @vertical.rio which is #RioDeJaneiro’s best helicopter flying experience 🚁. What I love about them is they’ve focused on building a brand specifically targeting the millennial connected traveler. Much like @beautifuldestinations they’ve disrupted the space by focusing on brand, content and a differentiated approach to marketing. These guys only opened up 1 year & a half ago and have taken over the market in #Rio 👍🏽. Not only is Pedro a switched on entrepreneur he’s also a really great caring guy. He went above and beyond to make this happen for @cory.s.martin & @matiasderada as we were initially meant to fly on Friday. The fog came in cancelling the flight meaning we had to shuffle things around and pray that we’d get the perfect conditions on Sunday. It was key that we got sunrise as that was when I lost my drone and it just wouldn’t have been the same at another time. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. As we took off the colours started to pop in the sky and the fog descended over Sugarloaf Mountain & #Corcovado 🔥. Circling Christ The Redeemer as I hung out the helicopter was an unreal experience. This is exactly the same shot I took with my drone...the only difference being the inclusion of my feet 🙃. If you make it to Brazil, 💯% visit @vertical.rio and experience this for yourself. You won’t regret it 👍🏽. Not quite sure how I’ll top this shot but next time I’m in Rio I guess I’ll have to get creative 🤓.
