Anyone is welcome to visit and make some drawings as part of “Current: Kenji Nakayama & Pat Falco” @pat_falco @kngee on view through 1.5.18!

Hope you have a fun weekend! We’ll open back up on Monday, per usual. Here’s a great response to Pat Falco’s sculptures in “Current” from our Gallery Assistant, Jonathan Obin: “Old analog tvs stacked on top of each other line one wall in the gallery at Current. ‘Real’ white noise and the nostalgia of earlier times create a calming atmosphere that is comforting to be around. Painted in black over some of the screens are simple graphic images that become much more complex in combination with the randomness of the static. This analog electronic image is something that could not be reproduced digitally without an excessive amount of work and there is something nice about that, but it also acts as reminder of what we might be losing in an increasingly digital life.”

Today at the studiolo in CURRENT, Andy Li will be joining us to work on some text based embroideries like the one seen here. Stop by and say hi! .
.
.
Andy Li is a Boston based artist working in a range of mediums from textiles to photography. His recent work has been focused on modern existentialism through text based embroideries. After receiving his BFA in 3D with a focus in Fibers and Film from Mass. Art, he has been working to find a common thread between what it means to be human, both mentally and physically. His approach to his subject matter is to confront his own comfort in the world and to simplify it in a way that is accessible and relatable for the viewer to question their own emotional standpoint. As he continues to question his own thought processes, his work expands to many territories and styles, many of which he has never imagined himself capable of creating. His daily mantra for creating work is simple, you can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs! @radandyli @uhgallery @umassboston

@uhgallery will be open from 12-6 today. Joining us in the studiolo as part of Current’s micro-residency program are local artists TJ Kelly III and HEXHAND, recent Works picture here respectively. Come visit and introduce yourself and see their work to be integrated with @pat_falco and @kngee. More info below:
.
.
.
TJ Kelley III (b.1990) is a practicing artist from Boston, Massachusetts. Working through a variety of visual media, he intends to explore fictions within storytelling using objects, patterns, and writing, examining the way our personal narratives distort the stories we hear and tell. Recalling early 20th century lithograph posters and later Bauhaus graphic design, he utilizes a bright but limited palette to render images of objects, using texture and layering to give these objects dimension. While TJ’s paintings and drawings remain the primary focus, in recent years he has begun a more immersive art practice by incorporating sculpture, bookmaking, and installation to create a unified expression. @tjkelleyiii .

HEXHAND is a transdisciplinary artist who specializes in utilizing Risograph Printing, Confidentiality, Zines, Wallpaper, Wheat Paste, Stencils and Stickers @hexhand

Being the first to mesh Nepali Alphabets with American graffiti, she has shown her work in several exhibitions, commissioned works and public walls around the world including Boston, San Francisco, Bali, Istanbul, Geneva and Copenhagen. She has created work for clients such as Trip Advisor, Neiman Marcus and Red Bull.

Sneha is an artist, educator and social entrepreneur from Kathmandu, Nepal. Before working on the Children’s Art Museum of Nepal, Sneha worked at Artists for Humanity which played a huge role in inspiring her to dedicate her life to art, education and innovative social impact. Sneha recently graduated from Harvard Graduate School of Education with a Master’s degree in Education. During her time at Harvard, Sneha explored the effective leadership in education and the intersections of creativity, learning and technology.
