The infamous quote of Greg Glassman: “Constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity.”
This quote, however true, has become gospel for many Crossfit enthusiasts and coaches. With athletes hitting their maximal intensity lifts and short and hard conditioning pieces on almost a daily basis. The reality of it is that this is completely unsustainable and will greatly hinder the progression of an athlete.
We break Functional Fitness into two simple sections. Training and competing. Training should be structured to improve an athletes ability in competing. You don’t enter a competition every single weekend, because everybody is under the correct assumption that this would lead you to burn out. So don’t train like you are competing.
Step away from the continuous ‘work up to a heavy single’ with all of your lifts. Step away from the Assault Bike sprints. Progression is made by practise. Get yourself a knowledgable coach that can monitor your training, or follow a programming structure that takes care of your strength progressions with smart sustainable protocols.

OGSS is a group programming structure for athletes who are looking to improve their overall strength, but continue on with their current training, whether that be Crossfit classes or sport specific training. It consists of 3x45 minute sessions per week. They are designed to improve strength, specific to functional fitness along with sports games athletes. Perfect to complete before, or after athletes current training sessions.
