The duct tape diaries: "it's not an adventure until something goes wrong"
About 10 minutes after the boat left us at Ship Cove the sole fell off my left shoe. And then my right shoe! We didn't have enough duct tape for a failure of this magnitude so I hiked my bike up the first few "climbs" in bare feet and made do the rest of the day with what tape we had and also some string. Early afternoon we found a nice lodge that gifted us a whole roll of duct tape and then everything was better after that. Lesson: before embarking on an adventure always check to make sure the soles aren't just about to fall off both your shoes. And always take more duct tape than you think you'll need. Zip ties are good too. The end.
Gisborne is usually all about sunrises (first city in the world to see that big yellow guy every day! #sunfact) But the sunsets ain't bad here either... In the middle of the day the sun will attempt to incinerate you and you'll feel like you're being bathed in acid. Gizzy; good on ya mate, A+ for sun action.
