the print magazine of travel literature, travel culture and travel politics. nomadic | expatic | sarcastic. world citizen? we get it. #mywherever
Life changes. People move. We travel.
I have learned so much from this community of wanderers, but it is time for that emotive and demonstrative hug before boarding a flight at airport security.
The magazine will no longer print. [wherever] will continue to live online. You can’t subscribe, but for the rest of this year, you can order print copies. After that they will all go to another realm.
Thank you to every contributor and every subscriber and every collaborator for making the journey to build [wherever] as informative as it was. Nothing lasts forever; enjoy the magical stuff you have around you while it is alive to escort you on your life crossings. In these foolish and senseless times, be sure to make time for self-care, talking to others, taking care of each other and continuing to query what it means to live an Out of Place life.
ok so it's not the med, but lake merritt is still #bayarealove
who stayed up to watch the #perseids this weekend?
who's watching #rio2016? everybody loves #teamrefugees right? how could you not? we're rooting for them too! it's important to celebrate their achievements and also to acknowledge all that they, and the millions like them who won't make it to the olympics, have overcome. losing your home, lifestyle, friends and family members is traumatic. a reminder that not everyone who sets off to travel and start a new life does so by choice, as adventure minded travelers. don't forget to cheer for #yusramardini at the women's 100m freestyle tomorrow!
lanterns were sent into the water at sunset yesterday, to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the atomic bombing of hiroshima (Aug. 6) and nagasaki (Aug. 9). between 120,000 and 250,000 people were killed. the two bombings remain the only use of nuclear weapons for warfare in history.
it doesn't matter how much you ; every once in a while, you're bound to have a moment that takes your breath away and reminds you how small we all are. this snap from 38k+ feet does just that. i begrudgingly opened my sleepy eyes half way through a twelve hour flight back to the west coast to feast on this view. note the curvature of the earth! #mywherever
