Our latest #WomenInStone highlight is Jessica Ormesher (@_threechickpeasandme), Health & Safety Coordinator / Account Manager at Capaul Stoneworks (@capaul_stoneworks). She says, “I love the stone industry because we are given the ability to work and design with a piece of nature, each piece is unique and it is an ever changing industry.”

How cool is this, #WomenInStone? “Thirteen middle-school-age girls are spending the week learning valuable skills as a precursor to possible careers in the construction industry…This is the first camp of its kind the organization has put on in Texas, and it comes at a time when contractors say they can’t find enough workers.” Now those are some rockin’ Summer plans! www.kxan.com/news/new-austin-camp-encourages-girls-to-consider-construction-careers/

In celebration of #IndependenceDay, we are highlighting historical figure, Margaret Corbin. During the American Revolution, she did not want her husband, John, to go into battle alone, so she joined him! She worked as a nurse on the battleground and also shot a cannon during the fight. She later became the first women in American history to receive a pension from Congress for military services. #WomenMakingHistory#FourthofJuly
Last week we snapped a photo of our #WomenInStone members who serve on the Natural Stone Institute board of directors: Marcella Prado of Laticrete International, Inc. (@laticrete), Kathy Spanier of #Coldspring, Mariavittoria Grassi of Grassi Pietre (@grassipietre) and the #NaturalStoneInstitute's Jane Bennett. Thank you for all of your hard work, ladies!
Did you know that June is #NationalSafetyMonth? #Buzzfeed recently put out this awesome article of women who created safety-related inventions! Hedy Lamarr invented wireless transmissions technology, “a secret communications system during World War II for radio-controlling torpedoes, employing ‘frequency hopping’ technology.” This technology “laid the technological foundations for everything from Wi-Fi to GPS. She also happened to be a world-famous film star.” https://www.buzzfeed.com/hannahjewell/inventions-by-women-that-changed-the-world?utm_term=.rkxeKQyDvd#.il9GkQdoX9
