Feeling so blessed to call @sydney home.
Do you love early morning routines? Time for yourself before the world wakes up? This morning... 4am wake up👉🏼 breathwork 👉🏼cold shower 👉🏼meditation 👉🏼practice 👉🏼run 👉🏼greet the sun 👉🏼taught 6am & 7am class 👉🏼yummy b’fast 👉🏼feeling like a champ... and it’s only 8:30am!!! The one thing I miss when we travel is regular early morning routine, so I’m all about it when we’re back home for a few months. I know 4am might sound a little cray cray, but with a bit of discipline, planning and regular early bedtime it’s literally life changing. Don’t take it from me, just try it! I love handstands, but let’s be honest, nailing a handstand doesn’t make you less of an a$$hole... often times quite the contrary! There it is, I said it!🤭 With the trend of gymnastics in the world of yoga over the last decade, and I mean that in the best way possible, many have come to believe that being able to hold a handstand is the prerequisite for becoming a yoga teacher and even a yoga practitioner for that matter. Well, I’m here to call a big, fat, steamy BS on that!💩 I think it’s one of the downsides of handstand popularity on social media. Don’t get me wrong, obviously I love going upside down and as we can all agree, it does look pretty cool, but handstands are not for everybody. The amount of weight bearing, strength, flexibility, mobility, stability, balance and even courage required, makes this asana inaccessible for many. The good news is that all the health benefits and the natural high can be experienced in much more accessible inversions. And I don’t mean just playing around with headstands and forearm stands. Did you know that down dog is an inversion? Yep, when your head is below your heart it’s an inversion. Too much weight for your wrists? Try a dolphin pose. Elbows hurt? Try a shoulderstand. Neck and shoulders can’t take it? Legs up the wall should do the trick! Anyway, what I’m saying is handstands are fun, but it’s just one of a million asanas, so don’t beat yourself up if handstand is not your jam and practice what feels good instead. Hmmm but what about getting those likes and followers you may ask? I say F***K that! Do you want FOLLOWERS of your handstand, or IG FRIENDS that care about who you are?!!! Just a thought🤷🏼‍♂️ H.

Hey everyone, I’m back👋🏼 Thank you for all your lovely messages and emails whilst I was away. I promise to answer all of your questions about my #vipassana experience over the next few days. I definitely want to take more time for myself and continue unpacking the whole experience, but here is a little sum up for now... 10 days of silence, no phone, no eye contact, 4am wake ups, 12 hours of daily meditation and 18 hours of daily fasting. Must admit, I had my fair share of ups and downs in the first few days. Did I ask myself “what the f***k am I doing here?” Oh yeah, more than once. The arduous task of patiently sitting in complete stillness for many hours was always going to be the biggest challenge, but I was relieved and somewhat surprised to witness the physical discomfort gradually go away after a few days of patience and persistence. Once the flow of concentration stabilized, the sweet nectar of equanimity began to crystallize and Eureka! the phenomenon of present moment awareness emerged. It’s that feeling of clarity and wisdom of insight when the fog of confusion finally goes away and the chasm of mere intellectuality becomes an embodied experience - the undeniable reality of the here and now. One of the most mind chattering and heart opening experiences of my life. So much clarity, so much relief, so much gratitude. It’s a real game changer and I look forward to continuing with regular silent retreats in the future. For anyone seeking to unlock the elusive doorway to experiencing present moment awareness liberated from the madness and confusion of a busy mind, vipasssana meditation holds the key. I’m happy to answer any questions in the comments below...

We all have a unique story of how we first found yoga. I was 15 the first time I experienced a class. At the time I was traveling with my family in Bali and a friend of theirs suggested that I might like yoga since I had just finished years of practicing martial arts and was searching for something else. After a 2 hour practice on every prop imaginable, chai tea and a philosophy discussion, I was mystified! The sensation of joy and connection to my body impacted me deeply. I left the first class, without my shoes!😆 I have continued to be in wonderment of yoga ever since.

As we watch @sofiephoenix grow from a little baby to a chatty, adventurous toddler who mimics everything we do, we recognize how important yoga and meditation will be in her life and how impactful it can be in the lives of all children. We’re excited to team up with #AloGives to make that happen and be a part of this intention that has set out to do so much good. Today @aloyoga launched Alo Gives, a nonprofit that is dedicated to bringing yoga & mindfulness to the world by providing a free 12 week curriculum designed to introduce and encourage mental & physical skills that are a part of social & emotional learning. #tbt When I think of @SofiePhoenix growing into a young woman, it gives me chills and tingles all around my heart. I have so many things I can’t wait to tell her, teach her and show her so that she can grow into a strong, kind, gentle, smart and playful person. It’s been 7 days since Honza left for his silent meditation retreat and just over 7 years since this picture was taken. It felt like a perfect time to resurface this image. This was during his first trip to Nepal, when he knew he was ready to live his life differently. After this metamorphic pilgrimage to the mountains, he returned home and YogaBeyond was born, our collaboration began. So much has happened since then. It already feels like we’ve had several lifetimes together.
I can only imagine what he has been experiencing but what I do know for sure is that we never encounter an experience that we’re unequipped to handle. The forces that be, call it GOD, Universe, the Source only shows us what we’re ready to see and reveals to us, what we are prepared to embrace. That doesn’t mean it’s always an easeful experience but it just means that we’ve got what it takes to face it. ❤️Honzajii is one of the most resilient people I know and I’m sure those piercing eyes and determined soul has persevered with grace.... now hurry up and come home! 🥰 #3moresleeps

Today was one of the sweetest days ever. @SofiePhoenix and I had a rough, strange night of sleep the evening before for whatever reason. So my intention was to flip things around and have a super playful, present and fulfilling next day. We spent hours at a local pool, splashing and spinning around the kiddie pool, eating raspberries and jumping into the big pool with floating noodles. A pile of kids show up for their swimming lessons so Sofie had to give up her noodles. Crisis and confusion lead to a quick comprise. We take seven noodles to the kiddo pool and I teach her to lay down on top of them, then proceed to glide her around the water on her raft. Sofie experiencing her first #watsu treatment! She became so still, as if she was staring deep into the past. I lay my hand on her head, stroking her gently then cupping her ears and within a few minutes, that felt like eternity, she drifts into sleep.
I had flashes of the first time Honza and I gave her a bath, after she was born. Her eyes were wide open and I could feel her soaking in all the sensations through her tiny little body. This experience felt as if she was drifting back into her birthplace, her first home, her origins. I had never felt so much peace as I did, watching her and holding her in this way. It was one of those times where your environment fades into the background and all you can see, feel and understand is, is that very moment.
