We love helping our puppy patients start out on the right paw! These two cutie pies were in for their rabies vaccine. We have only had to give them 1 Parvo/distemper vaccine thanks to our favorite diagnostic tool- Titer Testing! Less vaccines= less allergies, less ear infections, less chronic inflammation like leaky gut, arthritis, autoimmune diseases and cancer! We recently had one of our patients attempt a puppy class at a local vet clinic and they refused her because they require 4 sets of puppy vaccines! Yes, you heard that right- FOUR! Even with our advanced diagnostic testing, they refuse to move forward out of the Stone Age! It’s ridiculous to damage a pup’s immune system with excessive vaccinations when we have the ability to know exactly what they need when they need it. That would be like saying, I think your pet has a broken leg but I don’t want to use x-ray to confirm it so we will just put a cast on for 6-8 weeks just in case??!! #holistichealth#holisticvetcare#healthypups#healthypuppies
This girl had some good news yesterday! Allie has been dealing with severe allergies since receiving a Rabies vaccine shortly after her parents moved to Alabama. (This is a problem we see all too often!) we’ve been working hard to get her symptoms under control while getting to the root of the problem. After food allergy testing, we tried several different foods but still, we continued to see flare ups! So Allie’s Mom agreed to cook so we could eliminate the hidden starches in her diet. Starches break down into sugar and this sugar perpetuates inflammation (damp heat) and yeast. We were thrilled to see Allie responding so beautifully to this simple adjustment. Her mom even reported that she has also had increased energy since starting the new diet!! We don’t expect quick results with holistic treatment, but it is so rewarding to see our patients getting healthy from the inside out, rather than just bandaging symptoms making the illness worse later on!
Do you know what this?? This is our new 3rd exam room! Yes, we are busting at the seams trying to get all the new patients in, so rather than turning them away, we have decided to improvise until we get into our new building! Yesterday we had so much fun treating patients in here. We treated 3 German shepherds (2 that were over 100lbs) and a pit mix. It was raining and a little chilly but the tent was cozy with the outdoor heater. It was no surprise our patients loved listening to the rain on the shell, it was so relaxing, that they just fell right to sleep during their treatment!
Bear is in for his follow up acupuncture treatment and I would say he’s pretty excited about it! Bear has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma. His parents are going to great lengths to keep him happy while trying to push this terrible cancer into remission. He is now on a raw diet and receiving acupuncture and herbs. Our goal is to transition him to a ketogenic diet to see if we can get some faster results. Praying for success!!
We love helping our shepherd patients! Vader has been dealing with skin issues and arthritis. Unfortunately the primary cause of these issues are Over vaccinating and chemical overload- Vader has been on Bravecto for over a year! So we started with food allergy testing, a liver detox, some herbs to cool him down and acupuncture. Judging from this picture, it’s obvious Vader LOVED his acupuncture treatment!
This pretty girl Lexi has lost 8 oz just by transitioning to a home-cooked diet. This girl came to us for help with her Heart and chronic cough. She was on a really high dose of lasix. This medication dries out the lungs and can make coughing worse not to mention it causes severe dehydration and weakness and worst of all- headaches! Yes, we don’t think about our pets getting headaches but they do! And dehydration headaches are painful, those are the kind that make your entire head hurt and it feels best not to move! So our first goal was to help Lexi with her headaches. In order to do this we needed to get her on a fresh diet with moisture vs dry kibble and we would slowly wean her body off the high dose of lasix. Not to mention a new diet would speed up some much needed weight loss. Her mom was excited to jump on board! We are slowly reducing the lasix and treating many elements to help get the cough under control. Now Lexi may look pooped in this picture but that’s because it was taken after her acupuncture treatment. But believe me, when she came in yesterday her eyes were bright, she was holding her head high and actually walking without too much exhaustion! We love seeing our patients get healthy!!
This pretty girl, Lila, hit the jack pot when she was rescued by a wonderful care taker who believes in holistic medicine and feeding a raw food diet. She has been seeing us to detox all the bad stuff the rescue organization had to give her. Sadly rescue organizations and animal shelters vaccinate every pet coming in to their facility rather the pet has recently been vaccinated or not. We plan to have a small rescue one day where the pets won’t be vaccinated so those looking to adopt will have healthier pets!! For now on, this girl will receive titer testing rather than vaccinations and that makes her happy!!
Check out this champion Bichon Frisé! Sera is seeing us for help with her allergies. We started with testing for food allergies, Bioscan analysis and acupuncture for the current imbalance she is displaying now. If every patient we treated would stand this still for acupuncture, we could see a 100 patient’s a day!!
Kiwi surprised us and her family with an early Christmas present: improved skin and less itching! This sweet little gal has been dealing with skin issues since receiving a rabies vaccine 3 years ago when she moved to Alabama. We have all worked so hard to help her reach optimal health and reduce the skin issues but our success was not 100%. However, I believe we found the missing link - we transitioned Kiwi from a home-cooked diet to a ketogenic diet where her body uses ketones and fats for energy rather than carbs/glucose. Since every cell in the body is encased by a phospholipid layer (fatty tissue) we were hopeful that this may help and we have all been pleased with the results thus far. We will continue to monitor Kiwi’s progress and pray for 100% recovery. Treating pets holistically isn’t always easy but we can revel in the fact that everything we do is working to benefit our patient. We are not covering up symptoms, pushing them deeper in the body to only show up later as something much worse. We are correcting and balancing and healing gently over time, while paying attention to each patient’s individual needs.
It’s hard to believe this big boy still has some growing to do! Rupert is only 7 months old and unfortunately already battling allergies. He came to see us for a food allergy test and Bioscan so we can help get to the root of his problem. His mom is already on board with holistic therapies so she understands solving the root cause versus covering up symptoms. The primary cause of allergies in dogs under the age of 1 is food allergies. There are several reasons for this: 1. The immune system is still too immature to have mounted a full spectrum of antigen/antibody complexes to environmental allergens. 2. Puppy vaccines, dewormers and other chemicals administered by mouth lead to the development of leaky gut which in turns leads to food allergies. Approximately 70% of the immune system is in the gut so when a young immune system is hit with 5 or even 7 vaccines at once at a typical puppy visit, not to mention repeat visits, this wreaks havoc on the intestinal lining causing inflammation and leaky gut symptoms. Once the intestinal wall is compromised and the barrier becomes “leaky” this allows protein antigens to pass into the blood stream resulting in an allergic response. 3. Genetic predisposition to leaky gut, antibody and Immune system dysfunction. Getting a hold of this issue now can prevent major immune imbalances down the road. We love helping our pups get started out on the right paw. We see so many end stage illnesses that we know could have been prevented had a veterinarian corrected that pet’s issue rather than just making the symptoms go away temporarily which inevitably pushes the illness deeper into the body. #healthypups#healthypuppy#holisticvetcare#holistichealth
We love shitzu tzus! Isabella and Sasha are regulars at our office! Isabella will be 15 years old in December and has been seeing us for 3 years to help control her heart disease, bladder stones and seizures! She gets an excellent report from her cardiologist at each recheck. We have been able to keep this gal away from junk prescription dog food, prescription medications and we’ve been able to reduce her seizures with herbs. Sasha is 14 and has been seeing us since her 21 year old sister passed away. We’ve been working to help her with allergies and thrunderphobia. We’ve been balancing yin which so far has resolved those issues.
Beau’s feeling a little groggy after his acupuncture treatment. He is trying the Assisi Loop this week as a tool to help reduce any neck stiffness prior to his agility trials. This is a big season for Beau and we’ve been working with him to try to reduce soreness after exercise and trials. In TCM, soreness usually arises from stagnation (a build up of lactic acid) which causes the muscles to feel heavy and tired. We have been using acupuncture and herbs to help relieve this stagnant qi (energy). While his soreness has improved, Beau is still not . We are discussing a diet change with his mom since dry kibble contains so much sugar. Sugar is an obvious cause of dampness and stagnation and unfortunately it is in all kibble foods. Starch is used to keep the kibble together during heating/cooking. The body breaks this starch down into simple sugars. We are confident this change will resolve Beau’s issue!
It’s amazing how dogs can so easily find joy in the midst of turmoil. Never in a million years would you know this guy is hiding a giant tumor in his abdomen. While the exact source of the cancer is unknown, cytology and ultrasound suspect a retained testicle is the likely culprit. A month after this finding, Tony still acts like nothing is wrong! He feels fantastic after acupuncture and is thrilled with his home cooked meals and herbs. We initially treated Tony for behavioral issues - quick reactivity and excessive barking. Tony started on Liver Happy and some other liver herbs in the spring. All of his behavioral issues resolved. I believe the Liver Happy kept this tumor at bay all this time. It has powerful anti-cancer properties and reduces stagnation of qi (energy/lymph) which is most often the cause of tumor formation in the first place. We’ve added a few more herbs to his regimen and we are praying for as much healthy and happy time for him as possible!
This guy really brightened our day! Wrigley came to see us for significant hindlimb weakness. After just one acupuncture treatment and starting Chinese herbs to nourish yin, he showed up for his second treatment feeling like a champ! German Shepherds can develop hindlimb weakness as a result of hip dyaplasia, arthritis of the lumbar spine known as cauda equina syndrome or a neurodegenerative condition called degenerative myelopathy (DM). In Chinese medicine we treat according to the pattern the pet is displaying rather than the disease itself. We started correcting Wrigley’s kidney yin deficiency while working to move stagnant qi in his hips and he is responding beautifully!
Stella was found in a ditch on the side of the road. She was malnourished and ridden with fleas. Some sweet samaritans (who also happen to be previous clients of ours) took her in and are working to get her into good health. Fleas are attracted to weak blood, so we are starting there. We need to strengthen her blood with herbs and a good diet. Unfortunately at this stage of flea infestation, we have to use chemical treatments but hopefully only short term because a healthy dog is not a flea attractant. We will follow the treatments with a liver detox. We are looking forward to seeing this gal live a wonderful healthy life!
Acupuncture isn’t all fun and games, just ask Izzie Boo! . I know she’s thinking she didn’t sign up for this position but she sure stayed still for her entire treatment. Izzie Boo has nerve damage in her back left leg. We alternate between electro acupuncture and regular dry needle acupuncture. With electro, we are able to run a current between the needles and improve conduction across nerves and meridians. Izzie Boo actually allowed us to put a needle in the bottom of her foot, this point is Kidney 1 which we connected to a kidney point on her spine. She is obviously a PRO at this! It sure makes our day when we see her running into our office!
We shared a pic of this guy two weeks ago. He was in for a consult to get started on a health journey to prevent reoccurrence of hemangiosarcoma post splenectomy. I recommended a home-cooked diet and his mom didn’t blink an eye before she jumped all in! This guy came bounding into our office, feeling fantastic! His eyes were bright, tail wagging and he was full of energy. His mom said he’s doing things that he’s never done before!! It’s exciting to see how the benefit of fresh food and the realignment of qi(energy) through acupuncture can alter the course of disease!
Aldo has a full coat of hair!! This is truly a miracle and a perfect example of consistency and dedication. Aldo has been seeing us for 3 years. His mom has been so diligent with herbs, acupuncture, detoxing and restoring and now we have a much healthier dog than we had 3 years ago. Not to mention, his coat is growing out beautifully!! Aldo developed generalized alopecia as a result of many factors, one I believe was the flea product Vectra. His thyroid also slowed down at a young age. I have seen so many poodles that have developed serous side effects related to chemicals, vaccines, etc. We treat them with detox agents and liver/methylation support and often times, they recover. We love Aldo and his family so much and we are so excited for them - it’s so rewarding to see hard work pay off! Remember, In Consistency Lies the Power and There is no short cut to any place worth going!
This cutie pie, Dian, came in for a consult to prevent the regrowth and metastasis of a mammary carcinoma. She was born and raised in China and now lives here. You would never know this sweet gal is 14 years old! That’s because her mom has done her best to avoid chemicals, vaccines and has been cooking for her for years! The pets we see on a fresh diet really do stand out among the rest. We are excited to start acupuncture along with Chinese and western herbs to help this girl feel her best for as long as possible!! We love exceeding prognoses!
This sweet gal is smiling because she is so excited about her Bioscan results. We detected some low level stressors that are now being addressed. You wouldn’t believe how many pets are walking around with parasites, despite their monthly preventatives. We are detecting inflammation and oxidative stress, hormone imbalances, enzyme deficiencies, vitamin and mineral deficiencies and even organ and cellular dysfunction.
This hunk o burnin’ love came in for a consult and acupuncture treatment. He recently had his spleen removed and our goal is to prevent further metastasis and/or complications associated with this type of tumor. We currently have another patient with a similar cancer who is now 2 years out past diagnosis!
Our favorite party poodle made it down from Huntsville for his bi-annual wellness check. We just love sending our patients out the door with a REAL wellness check- where we avoid vaccines, chemicals and medications and we focus on the STAYING WELL part!
Check out Leo’s BRIGHT EYES and not to mention he’s holding his head up to look at the camera. We first met Leo last month, he came in for an evaluation for elevated liver enzymes and some joint issues. His eyes were dull, his head was hanging low because he had so much tension in his neck. I talked to his parents about tension headaches and I felt Leo was really experiencing some side effects from a toxic liver. We treated him with acupuncture and started him on some herbs based on his exam and his Bioscan. Then yesterday he totally caught me off guard when I saw this little guy bouncing into our office. I couldn’t get a picture on his first visit bc I couldn’t get him to hold his head up but yesterday he was ready to pose. His parents also informed us that he even went on a hike this past weekend. There is nothing that makes our day more, than to see our patients feeling healthy and happy, doing what they love with their families.
Moose and Hannah say they have been moving so much better since adding herbs and acupuncture to their regimen! We also want to remind everyone, we are closed today for a conference. We will return to normal business hours on Monday!
