The Lares Valley is one of the most picturesque in the southern part of Cusco, home of many traditional weavers and farmers. The people live day to day, growing and knitting what they eat and wear. Each day is reasonably paced with ample time to enjoy the incredible scenery, to walk is hard but this is incredibly compensated with the landscape, lunch alongside cascading waterfalls and lakes; appreciate the life of the Andean farmer and we could share time with them to tell us about their activities, this with help of the tour guide.
Each June 24th, around 80,000 spectators gather in Cusco to celebrate the Winter Solstice and kick off the Andean New Year during Inti Raymi, the Sun Festival. Honoring the supreme Inca god Inti, the sun, this was the year’s most important celebration in the time of the Inca Empire. Tradition holds that Inti Raymi dates back to Manco Cápac, the first Inca.
This special day will bring alot of music, dances and ceremonies throughout the city of Cusco. It begins at the Qorikancha temple early in the morning, also called the Temple of the Sun. From here the procession will continue to the Plaza de Armas square. Then after, they will continue to the most impressive location: Sacsaywaman. Here, they will perform the last ceremony, which includes the sacrifice of a llama to offer to the sun god (nowadays it is staged and the llama wont be killed), presenting the heart(in this case, a fake one) of the animal by pointing it to the sun. Then they will burn it as offer.
After the ceremony, throughout the day the party will continue with dances, music in all parts of the city till in the late night.

About 3 hours from Cusco, deep in the mountains lies the ruïns of a settlement called Maucallacta.
The legend says that 4 Ayar brothers were the beginning of the Inca-imperium. They were send to earth by the incan god Wiracocha.
They had the mission to help the people on this region of seeking a good place to live, because the land they were staying was bad.
They also taught the people how to farm and other useful skills.
After the death of 3 brothers, only one brother (Ayar Manco) made it to the valley where now lies the city of Cusco, and he created the beginning of the Inca's.
In Maucallacta, on the 12th of June every year, the story of the brothers Ayar is being told with a traditional ceremony.
Experience this magic journey through an undiscovered land of wild desert landscapes, snow capped peaks, heards of alpaca, and arrive at the ultimate destination. The painted hills hidden deep in the Andes!
